2005 Infiniti G35 Oil Leak/ white smoke?
Hi I just purchased a 2005 infiniti g35 coupe with 157 000km (around 90 000 miles)2 days ago. When I was looking at the car I tested it out and everything seemed fine. The car was even safetied by a mechanic before I made the final purchase. I probably drove the car about 100 000km before I realized there was a weird smell in the cabin. I thought it may have just been something electrical because there are 2 subwoofers in the car so I turned the music off. The smell just got worse and worse, so I pulled over to check the engine to see what was going on. Right when I got out of the car I saw there was a very small amount of white smoke coming from underneath the car on the drivers side. There was no white smoke at all coming out of the exhaust though. I turned the car off and waited for it to cool down a bit before I checked the oil. When I originally got the car I checked the oil and it was at the top, When I checked the oil after 100km of driving it was about less then half way! I was only a few blocks away from my house so I drove home and now my car is just sitting in the drive way and I don't even want to turn it on at this point. I have had 2 cars in the past and have never had any problem like this. The engine still sounded fine and the ride was great the entire time. Please if anyone knows what is wrong let me know!
Your car uses oil like many other Infiniti's
Tons of threads on oil consumption
My previous 06 G35 6 speed very often used a qt/1000 miles
I traded it in at 171796 miles and it still ran like new
Just check your oil once a week, top off when needed and you'll be fine
Telcoman

Is it a 6-speed or auto trans? The '05+ 6-speed G35 Coupes (Rev-Up) are more prone to burning oil than non-Rev G's. It's a problem though and if it is indeed burning oil at the rate you suspect, you will need a new motor soon. If you bought it from a dealership, you should address it now. There should be some sort of warranty or lemon-law for used cars purchased at over a certain monetary amount, although not all states have this.
How long did you wait for it to cool down before checking the oil? You'd want to give it a little time so all the oil can drain back into the sump. Remove the dipstick, clean it off, put it back in and pull it out smoothly and not to jerky to get an accurate measurement.

Welcome to G35 Driver Ryan! White smoke is coolant, look closely at all your hoses or have a pressure test done to find the leak! Checking your oil level isn't easy but you must wipe off the dip stick and insert twice to get the correct reading...true with every car! Checking oil level once a week with a high mileage G35 is a great
and changing it every 3K miles is even better! Ryan, again "Welcome and Enjoy the ride!"
