Any ex-350Z owners who traded it in on their G35c?
Hello, Infiniti G35c owners. I currently own a 350 Z and am thinking about trading it in on a G35c. I'm hoping someone out there has done this already and can give me some insight as to whether they felt they made the right decision or regret getting rid of the Z. I drove both vehicles before buying the Z. I bought the Z because it saved me $5,000.00. My Nissan dealership was willing to negotiate while the Infiniti dealership would not. Plus the only G35s the dealership had had a ton of extra options I neither wanted or could afford. But I've become frustrated with the problems with the Z (tire wear, bouncy ride, greasy window, terrible sounding Bose system, rattles). I know, I should have done my homework better. Be that as it may, I'm doin' it now. I'm sure many of you G35c owners have read the posts for the Z. Is the G35c experiencing as many inherent problems as the Z is having? If so, what are they and what is Infiniti doing about it? If you drove/owned a Z for a good number of miles and now have the G35c, what are your thoughts on performance, reliability, ride, comfort, etc. Some of you may say I'm not comparing apples to apples. Probably true, but I'd like whatever input you can offer. The rear seat is nice but not important to me.
Please offer some guidance.
PS I know I'm going to take it in the shorts if I trade my Z in on a G35, but I'm willing to do it if I can finally get some enjoyment out of my purchase. Instead of worrying about the next problem.
Thanks!!!!

I dont have an answer to your question but I am in a somewhat same situation. I am in the market for the Z and G35C...everyday I change my mind on which one to get.
Do I save $5000 and hope I will never have to haul more than one or spend more for leather,18s,back seat, and luxury.
The way I look at it, performance wise, they are close, and for everything else, you get so much more with the base G35C 6M/T. Then again, the only available G35s are loaded w/ options when all I want is the sunroof.
Right now Im down to which cost more for Insurance...Im trying to lean towards the G35C but I know in 5min. when I see a Z drive by it will change again...
I feel your pain

I don't know how you guys can save $5000 - the cars are priced about the same. The only difference is if you want the 6MT which comes with many options and a higher base price than the base 6sp Z.
As far as problems, it seems hit or miss with both cars - probably due to 1st Model Year Blues. I would probably wait until the 2004's come out if you're worried about build issues.
As far as which car? To me, the G has a better ride quality than the Z. The G also has more storage than the Z (back seats, trunk, no chassis stiffener bar, etc.). The Z has better paint options (love that Blue) and more of a "look" factor.
If this will be your only car, I say definitely get the G35. If this is a second car or weekend car, I'd say get the 350Z.

Re: Any ex-350Z owners who traded it in on their G35c?
At least in Wisconsin, the big price difference is due to two things: First, Nissan dealers are extremely willing to discount the Z. I got mine for $500.00 over invoice, and I've heard of some folks getting them AT invoice. Infiniti dealerships in my area (2 of them) ARE NOT even willing to come down from MSRP. Second, all the G35 Coupes in my area had a ton of options which boosted the price sky high. Thanks for the feedback!
Keep it comin'!

So far we have one G35c owner that swung the other way. Sedan to Z I think. He wanted the sportiness. Maybe I am biased but I prefer the Coupe.

Poor guy didn't know what he was getting himself into apparently.
I can say the Coupe may share a problems or 2 like a less-than-stellar Bose system (though I like mine after having broken it in). But probably not the rattles - the coupe is better put together than the Z from what I have seen - Infiniti specs higher fit tolerances than Nissan. Also bouncy ride shouldn't be as much of a problem as the Coupe has a more compliant ride (but still handles better, gotta love it)

Re: Any ex-350Z owners who traded it in on their G35c?
Add another to the list. I had a 2003 350Z Chrome SIlver Track model. It was a fun car to drive a short amount of town around but other than that...it got really old. It was uncomfortable. My wife hated riding in it because of the seating position (much more confined), and poor ride. I also had rattles on the right side of the dash, the buzz in the rear view mirror, and the passenger side sun visor rattled. Since my wife already has a 03 G35 sedan, we received a letter to get a "preview" of the new G35 coupe from austin infinifi. After sitting in it 5 minutes, I knew the Z was history. MUCH better interior....seats, quality, more space, better ride, longer wheelbase, etc. I purchased a CB G35 Coupe, premium edition. Overall the G35 C has been the best car we've owned....and wouldn't hesitate at all to ditch the Z again, they are slick looking cars...from the outside.

AfroCreame,
Thanks so much for the valuable info. I value your opinion since you've driven both cars a substantial amount of miles. I think I'm beginning to feel how you did: the thrill has worn off. But I must admit, I think the styling on the Z is a hair more attractive. The next step is figuring out how much I'm going to get taken to the cleaners when I trade it in on a G!

NOEL48,
I wish I owned your garage! You own the exact cars I'd like to own for every driving situation I encounter. Thanks for the comments!

noel, if you think the coupe just blends in, you've never driven one. I get rubbeneckers literally every time I take my car out and get questioned about it whenever I stop for gas.
Re: Any ex-350Z owners who traded it in on their G35c?
Mani,
Gotta agree with ya! Though I own a Z and feel it's design is a hair (a thin one) more exciting, I saw a G35c a couple days ago and almost had an accident because I was looking at the G instead of paying attention to my driving! G is a kick-*** looking car! But is it worth my trading my Z in on one and taking a kick in the groin money-wise?

Re: Any ex-350Z owners who traded it in on their G35c?
I preordered a 350Z but let it go and got the coupe instead. I did this for practical reasons though. I still find the Z an outstanding looking car. I find the Z more exciting to look at but the coupe was a compromise. I have no regrets. The coupe is a very exciting car to drive and it is more balanced than the Z as a daily driver. Both are great cars. I also find the FX45 an outstanding vehicle. Nissan has had an amazing year.
