Just a question, I spoke to a dealer today and he told me that the headlights do not turn off automatically after you leave the car unless you have the premuium package. This is important to me since I am used to leaving my lights on all the time with my Honda, since after I leave the car the lights turn off after about 10 seconds. I'm driving a rental car now and because the lights don't turn off automatically if I forget to turn the lights off my batteries get drained.


Is this true? I would think a luxury car would have these features standard. If it is true, how much does it cost to modify your light to auto shut off?

It is indeed an option that comes with the premium package. Personally, I don't like the auto lights. Typically at night, I have been switching to the first setting, which is the auto setting. But during rain in the daytime, I have to turn it 3 clicks to the manual on setting. Since I flip the switch each time anyways, it doesn't do me any good. And I just don't like leaving the light on when I leave the car. It's rather annoying.

The cost to modify? depends on the route I guess. If you wanted to emulate the factory set-up using factory parts, it will depend on how much of the system needs to be swapped out. For an aftermarket kit, you'll need to look around at the cost of such kits...if they exist...

 

That's not really true. Auto on/off lights are only on Prem. but you can still leave them on and the car turns them off in 60sec. 1-1/2min. something like that.

There are several different features here.

1. Automatic Headlights: the switch on the stalk has On, Off, Parking, and Auto. When on the Auto setting the car turns the lights on when it gets dark, and turns them on when it gets light (or that's what it tries to do anyway).

2. The Automatic Headlights also allow the lights to remain on for a minute or so after you turn the car off.

3. The headlights turn themselves off after the car has been off for 5 minutes.

1 and 2 come with the Premium Package. I believe 3 is standard (it only works when the switch is On, not Auto).

If you have the feature, they can be slightly modified by the dealer -- the auto lights can come on earlier or later...

 

i manually shut mine off even though i have premium package, i am always paranoid they will be left on even with auto off, thats just me
