How to pay & ship wheels? (Private)

I am interested in purchasing some wheels from a private party and most likely will have to get them shipped. How and what is a secure way to pay for the wheels? I was thinking PayPal, but what is to stop the person selling the wheels from accepting the money through pay pal and just not sending the wheels and dissappear with my money? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ship it COD.

The buyer will be required to inspect and sign off on the delivery tag before the shipper releases the materials. The buyer then cannot come back after the fact and say he is not satisfied with the condition of the materials.

How about COD? And have it be Cashiers check that way the sender can be secure too.

PayPal has buyer protection. Basically, if you report that you never recieved the item, the seller *must* provide proof that he sent it to your confirmed address. If he can not, then your money gets refunded.

COD is probably the safest way though, and least amount of hassle.

Are you sure about this? The reason I ask is that I have a friend (who posts on this forum) who recently was ripped off on a wheel purchase using Paypal. He never received the wheels and the guy told him that he had them in stock. The guy never shipped them, making excuse after excuse and then the same exact wheels appeared on e-bay.

Bottom line, paypal is leaving this guy pretty much high and dry. Don't think they're going to do anything to help you out...

Thanks for the replies guys. So, with COD, what shipping service offers this method? FedEx? UPS? USPS? Also, is there a charge for this other than the standard shipping cost? And if I as the buyer rejects the wheels because of damage, who pays for the return of the wheels and the initial shipping charge?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to avoid getting ripped off!
Thanks in advance!!!

Darren

Ill second that alot of people here including myself got ripped off a long time ago with the "avelectronics look alike scam" any way If they guy mails you a box with a brick in it and has a tracking number to prove he mailed you a "package" paypal wont do a damn thing.

PayPal is secure. Just make sure that the seller is a confirmed seller. If not, do it COD. When a seller is confirmed, and they don't ship it, they need to show proof if not you get all your money back.

Thats how the system is supposed to work. I've dealt with it on several occasions, from both sides of the fence, and while I can say they *usually* do the right thing, PayPal basically can screw you if they feel like it. I'm assuming your friend filed a report and everything with paypal?

Realistically, if you do pay with paypal, make sure you do it via credit card. That way even if PayPal denies your claim, you can file a complaint with your credit card company, who are typically much easier to work with.

Shipping just seems like a hassle when purchasing big items like wheels and tires. Too risky. I guess I'll just look for a local set of wheels and tires, specifically the 2005 19" G35 C ones. Thanks for the help everyone.
