Switching from 2005 OEM G coupe headlights to 2006 projectors. Questions below.

Do I need to take the bulbs with the 2006 projectors or can I use my 2005 bulbs in the newer projectors? I'm swapping headlights with someone and need to know so I don't get bad bulbs for my new projectors and so he does not have problems with the 05 headlights with projector bulbs.

Like jaygotboost mentioned, the housings use two different bulb styles. The reflector housings use D2R bulbs, and the projectors use D2S bulbs. They aren't interchangeable so keep the bulbs with the housings they came in.

The D2R bulbs have a slightly different base and you would want to put in new bulbs anyways. A budget D2S that is new will outperform any used one!

I'm aware the 2003-2005 did not have projector headlights. I was wondering if all i need to do is remove the headlights from both cars and then plug in everything like how it came out? Or are there extra steps i need to take?

You got three answers to your question of will my bulbs work and seemed to ignore it. Other than swapping bulbs the replacement is plug and play. Just hook 'em up and you're set.

I did this 05 to 06 swap this summer. The headlights fit the exact same in the vehicle and there is no wiring modification required. When I bought my projectors second hand, one projector had a D2S bulb and one had a D2R. In fact they still do. The D2R isn't proper for the projector type but it I can confirm that it is working in my vehicle right now (although it bothers me deeply...)

Can you describe the difference since you literally have a side by side comparison? I have had D2Rs in my projectors for years and they work just fine, but should I switch to the D2S?

little background about my projectors, one is brand new because the previous owner had it replaced after an accident and the other is probably from the factory. The output of the two is certainly different. The new one has a very crisp cutoff like you'd expect from projector where as the other is a bit more fuzzy. This could be because of the age or it could be because it has the wrong bulb (D2R in the older one). I won't know until I put the proper bulb in but I suspect the poor cutoff is because of the bulb. If you look at images of the two bulbs you can see a shield wrapping the lower part of the D2R which could explain the poor output in the projectors

You would get a huge improvement in lumens with a newer set of quality D2S bulbs, but if what you have works fine you should use it until it goes bad.
