AFE dry flow filter
You should never have issues with the K&N filters if you'll read/follow the instructions on the cleaning kit! I ran a pair of those big K&N filters on my last Z never had an issue in 125K miles, never reinstalled them until they were dry.

My opinion is to not use K&N on filters. They let a ton of dirt by. I put one in my G35 about 8K miles into ownership and swapped it out about 3K later when I noticed a decent film of dust accumulated on the "clean side" of my Z-tube after the air filter. This was never the case before the K&N and was never the case after i got rid it.
I currently have an Amsoil EA Nanofiber filter in the car, but I don't think they make those anymore. It's one of those dry-element blue fabric filters that is cleanable and reusable.

Nothing at all.
Let's get facts straight first.
http://www.knfilters.com/filter_facts.htm
"We subject a sample of our filter designs to this test procedure using Coarse Test Dust, which includes particles ranging in size from less than 5.5 microns to 176 microns"
and then take a look at some common particle sizes

Talcum dust, which could easily destroy an engine can be down to 1/2 of 1 micron. Not much you can do about that.
