JWT Clutch Problem
JWT Clutch Problem
Alright so, I bought my 2003 g35 with 80k miles on it and the stock clutch went out at 85k. Decided I'd go with the JWT clutch and flywheel combo and I really enjoy the clutch. I hit 109k miles recently and I'm already getting the rpm surge. I'm no expert whatsoever so what I've read so far is that's a sign th clutch is going bad and needs replaced. How is that possible with only 29k miles on the clutch? Could it be a bigger issue? I know how to drive a manual transmission, I've been doing it for years so I doubt it's user error. Looking for a little expert advice before I take it in to get worked on. Thanks.
Edit: probably need to give more detail on what is actually happening. It never happens in a first to second gear throw. It usually can only be felt when I'm in 4th gear or above and needing to speed up from low rpm to high rpm quickly. The RPMs will jump as if it's in neutral and catch a few seconds later.

You are describing a slipping clutch, classic symptoms. It's on the way out. Either it's the way you're driving or it was installed incorrectly leading to rapid wear of the clutch lining. You will probably need a replacement soon.

Ya from the research I've done it's probably because I beat it up a little bit lol. Ok, so would it be worth it to upgrade to a stage 2 clutch? Sounds like this will just be an ongoing issue if I keep putting the stage 1 JWTs in. That 29k miles was put on over 4 years. This isn't a daily driver so it gets launched and driven hard when I do get to play with it. I'm thinking the exedy stage 2 and would the JWT flywheel fit that? I'm assuming I'll have to get a new flywheel too, but if not?

Ya I realize that, but is there an option to increase longevity? From what I've read upgrading from the organic plate will do that. With that being said, can I reface the JWT flywheel and have it work with a new stage 2 or should I upgrade that as well? Just over here trying to learn, your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks
On this you will need to do some research. Going stage 2 is obvious and probably a limit as stage 3 clutches start to get very expensive and street driveabilty goes out the window. Unless you trust someone to do the job properly I would not bother with a refacing, if it's not done right you will just need to go back and do this all over again, may as well just go with a new clutch and associated parts.
