2004 coupe engine replacement

I'm new the forum. I'm tryying to get a engine replacement on my 04 g35 automatic coupe. Any suggestions. I'm trying to spend the least amount possible. Even if it means just staying with the same motor swap.

Start with a 50k mile japanese engine importer, they're usually the best price for a replacement. That'll give you some numbers to think about while pricing out other options.

Quite a few people have done LS Crate Engine swaps but that's not exactly cheap. For the Japan imports you're gonna have to check your local importers because laws vary so I doubt you'll find a general one that will ship an engine to your door.

Yeah for cheap you definitely don't want to be tackling an LS swap lol. The motor you're looking for is a VQ35DE with single cam timing, there was a later VQ called the "rev-up" used from 2005-2007 on G's with a manual transmission that is not compatible. The importer will know this and will likely ask for your VIN number and either AT/MT to verify the motor they're selling will work. I have no idea what the cost will be for your location but I just called Foreign Engines which serves my area and they quoted $1700 for the motor, they have roughly 50k miles on the motor.

Locate an engine re-builder in your area and have them rebuild your existing engine.

If all else fails, trade your '04 coupe in for a newer year!

You have several choices...find someone to rebuild your motor, buy a new long block and have it installed. Then there's the "Bottom of the Barrel" idea, have a bone yard motor installed. Check our Marketplace under vendor engines, there's a company in Texas that sells VQ short and long blocks at a reasonable price. Buying a motor from Japan is a possibility if you live in a state that allows them in...I don't! Good Luck, hope you find an answer that works for you...Gary
