Poor gas mileage in Los Angeles... or my car?
Hi G35Driver. It's been a long journey with my car and this forum, kinda feels good to hop back on here for a bit of help from the community. I moved to Los Angeles from San Jose about 3 years ago, and I'm trying to figure out if my car suffers from poor gas mileage because of driving in the city or because it has something to do with my car. I now notice that my car only gets around 150-200 miles before I need to fill up the tank when driving in the city.
Prior to that, I remember getting around 300 miles or so before a fill up back in San Jose. I can confirm that right now on the highway, I can get up to about 350 miles before a refill because I have driven Los Angeles to San Jose and also from San Jose to Los Angeles a lot. But when it comes to city driving, only 150-200 miles. Of course, knowing my car well enough, I've already checked tires, air filters, spark plugs, etc. Is there something else beyond that I should look for in my car that might be contributing to this problem? Can someone else who lives in Los Angeles tell me if they have the same issue with their car when driving in the city? I'm also assuming that it is possible due to the constant stopping/going/turning that the mileage is worse. Thanks all!

That's about what I'm getting on a tank of fuel with just city driving, same for my highway milage (maybe a tad better on the flat roads). I drive a bit spirited however.
In reality, 200 mpg is about all you can hope for driving in L.A. traffic. When you can, hit the open road, use your cruise control and see the difference! Go up the 5 to hwy 126 to Ventura have lunch and enjoy the beach! Mileage will only get more important when our gas tax goes up 12 cents per gal in November! Thank you Gov. Brown and his Liberal azz wipes in Sacramento...who voted for these

Unfortunately a car is necessary for me here in Los Angeles.
I would dislike living anywhere without a car except New York city, why would anyone want to live there?

Living somewhere where a vehicle is an inconvenience is NOT living.. it's surviving a vehicle-less hell.

Thanks all. Based on some of your guy's responses, it sounds like it's common for a G35 coupe to suffer from poor gas mileage in city areas. I still love my car, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it!
