Re: Couldn't wait any longer, bought a Lexus!

Well I gotta say I am as confused as everyone else. I think the main thing that attracted most of us to the g35 was performance. I am sure 95% of us would never give up that much performance just for a cushy ride and nice interior. These 2 cars are so far apart in every category except price. Lets face it, not too many people are cross-shopping es300's and G35's. I am surprised you were interested in a coupe at all, even though it is a beautiful car. It seems like an Audi A4 or BMW 325 would suit your priorities better. It's obvious you have different interests, so enjoy your Lexus.

Are you for real? You are waiting for the G35 to come out with more power and full featured but you settle for a underpowered land boat? You seem to be contradicting yourself. I think this just proves that the G35 is attracting a wide range of people, including driving enthusiasts like most of us on this board who can't comprehend driving such a slow car around all the time.

Well said, 1nate7. I think that sums up the general opinion of this board pretty well.

I would have to agree about the G35 attracting a wide range of consumer. Personally, the G35 sparked my interest as soon as I saw it, but I am NOT what you would call a performance-oriented driver. My biggest criteria were technology (I wanted Navigation especially), an affordable price, aesthetics, and a complete package with good handling and characteristics and a lot of standard features. The G happened to meet this best even though it'll be my first sports car. I'm a little nervous, but excited because it's something new for me coming from an SUV. My runner-up was actually a Honda Accord believe it or not. So I can see where this person might be coming from - the Lexus ES300 does seem like a nice car. I just decided I wanted to go for something different, and waiting was worth it, which is why I'm waiting for my G.

Re: Couldn't wait any longer, bought a Lexus!

I came over from driving an Acura CL coupe (essentially an up-marketed Accord). I wasn't planning to even look at new cars for another 3 years, thinking I would replace my older SUV first. Then I saw the G-coupe. One look, and I had to have one - it was pretty much as close to love at first sight than I've ever experienced. After that, nothing else would do.

It's so distinctively unique, that I guess that's why it's hard for most to imagine any buyer intent on getting one "settling" for something else so completely different.

But hey, to each his own! Good luck in any case, PlatinumG35coupe.

I can't believe what I'm reading! Is this guy for real? Whatever. He's made the biggest mistake of this year. I just got over 1200 miles the other day and just tapped the accelerator A LITTLE BIT and oh man! That baby has power. This guy is not going to have fun at all with that Lexus. I can't believe it's slower than a minivan! I LOVE IT! This is funny man.

Maybe what we have here is a case of someone walking into a dealer and getting talked into buying a car. Now he has some buyer's remorse, and is looking for validation that what he did is OK. This is the wrong forum to look for that!

The IS300 would only remind me of the fact I didn't get the G. Compared to the G, it's crappy in my mind. Interior is less to be desired. "

I suppose I can follow that logic, at least to a degree... ;-)

"2. Why not buy a used G?
I'm ****. I need to have it new and know I was the only driver. "

THIS, as un-economical as it sounds, makes perfect sense to me. I'm not really high on buying used cars either, even ones with very low mileage. From a financial standpoint it makes a lot of sense to buy used - but from a "peace of mind" standpoint, especially with a car like the G35 Coupe that may have been heavily abused (think of the poor sucker that'll end up buying Coupedit03's ride some day), there's no substitute for new.

"3. Why not buy the G sedan?
This car is quite ugly if u ask me. There's something about the back of the car that just doesn't look right."

I get grief for this same opinion all the time. The way I consider it, Infiniti added two doors to the sedan, and subtracted ALL the style. I won't argue it's still a great vehicle, but in no way does it compare to the Coupe. It's just another sedan, while the Coupe is a truly unique and beautiful head-turner.

Well, good luck with the Lexus. I just hope you don't end up regretting your decision.

Re: Couldn't wait any longer, bought a Lexus!

Come on guys, stop being so harsh on him!

I've been driving my 2k2 ES300 for about a year and half, and the car is wonderful. Granted it is aimed more toward older women and men, it still is an excellent car. It does exactly what Lexus is good for, getting you from point a to point b with as little disturbances as possible. Almost no cabin noise and a soft ride.

I think the only buyers' remorse he's getting is from you all hounding him on what a "bad decision" he has made. It's his money, he can do with it as he pleases. I don't know why everyone has to be so imposing that if a person doesn't have the same viewpoints as you, they've made the "biggest mistake of the year."

That all being said, I’ll probably be coming off as a hypocrite because I’m trading in my ES for a 6-speed OB coupe this Saturday. The car is wonderful, but I feel that I want a little bit more fun going from place to place.

Anyway, no worries platinum. If you think you made the right choice, then you did. You can't go wrong with Lexus reliability and service, and a more prestigious image than Infiniti.

wow.. everyone had to get their $0.02 in for this one... i guess saying u got something else instead of a G will trigger this kind of response.. oh well.. enjoy your ride, platinum.. i'm sure it'll serve you well until you finally trade it in for a G..

i'm actually getting tired of all the flack about the sedan.. is the bmw 330 ci that much different than the i? granted.. the back is a little different, but they're both great cars.. take a really really good look at the sedan with a body kit... i've had several ppl mix it up for the coupe.. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion..

Lexus has no more or no less prestigious image than Infiniti. Lexus is a Toyota, Infiniti is a Nissan and a Mercedes-Benz is a Mercedes-Benz now that’s a more prestigious image.

I agree that's how it *should* be, but I don't agree that's the reality. Lexus has a better image than Infiniti. The difference in re-sale value says it all. Toyota did an amazing job building that brand from thin air. Nissan/Infiniti has vastly improved lately, but Lexus has a huge headstart. I still run into people who think Lexus is European. I've started responding that my Infiniti is French, just to screw with their perceptions. I set my Nav to French language to "prove" it, and Infiniti even sounds kind of french (maybe I should debadge everything but "FIN" and say that's how the French indicate that you're looking at "the end" of the car). The kicker is that the Renault connection makes it defensible if anyone ever calls me on it. Surprisingly, even in this post-Iraq era, most people I talk to think a French car is more glamorous than a Japanese car.

Re: Couldn't wait any longer, bought a Lexus!

To every G owner and forum members,

I know you guys are driving an awesome car, but I picked up my Lexus yesterday and it's SLAMMIN!!!!

Absolutely no regrets once I sat in my buttery leather seats.

I will post some picks in a couple of days, not that anyone cares considering most of the responses.

Peace!

i was looking at the pics for this thing.. and it really does look like a camry... and the interior.. i'm not sure what the big deal is... the G is only a wood trim away from it, IMO... i think my 4runner limited had an as good if not better interior, aside from the nav.. i hope it rides well.. don't drool when you see the G.. that'd be a big sign of regret, whether you want to admit it or not.. at least your car is reliable and will hold value... if you like that sorta stuff...

Re: Couldn't wait any longer, bought a Lexus!

I'm sure your new car is nice...but the reason everyone is confused is because you went from a sport grand tourer to a cushy 4-dr sedan. Had you bought a 350Z or RX-8, SVT Cobra or 330i nobody would have given you grief. Just hard to imaging wanting a fast coupe, then going over to a slow sedan??

Buttery leather seats?? ...I'll take 280hp and 6speeds anyday.
