Advice whether to buy used 06 g35 coupe. Afraid of OC issue
Hello everyone!
I was looking at a 06 G35 A/T coupe today with 102K miles. Overall I thought the car was in great shape and the price is right.. However I was reading about the oil consumption issues that affect this car and I noticed in the trunk that there was a bottle of oil there..
I'm just a bit afraid that I might get hosed on this deal by inheriting a g35 coupe with oil consumption issues. However from my reading online, it seems as if the 06 G35 A/Ts are less susceptible to the oil issues as those with the M/Ts which have the rev up engine.. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks so much everyone and hopefully will be joining this community soon!

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

OC is more prevalent in the 6MT cars but affects the autos as well. My old 05 auto with 140K miles uses about a quart and a half every 4000 miles. When buying a used car most of us recommend a pre-purchase inspection from a reliable source. It costs a bit to do but it will give you an accurate record of what is and isn't wrong with the vehicle, even more important with the higher mileage cars . The OC issue is a concern as it is almost impossible to tell in an inspection but a compression test will tell you the overall health of the motor. If it is solid you can just add oil to the motor as needed and not worry.
Overall these cars are solid and can last a long time, we have a thread on here documenting a sedan that has over 340K miles and still running strong. Be aware you might have to spend a decent amount of money fixing worn out components on that car and have a budget ready and available to address those sort of things. Don't spend your whole budget on the car and have nothing left over.

If you check your oil weekly prior to starting the vehicle after sitting for a half hour you should not have a problem.
Telcoman
My 06 6MT burned maybe 1/2 qt between 4-5k oil change intervals, up until about 180k. Now at 250k it consumes 1/2qt a week (~400 miles).
I'd say get a G37, but those have oil gallery gasket issues. It's all just old used car problems. As long as you accept you'll need to put a little money into getting a used car into top shape, you'll be fine.
Most people get rid of a 10 year old car because they're tired of maintaining it, don't expect any of them to be perfect.

I wouldn't be thrown off by the oil in the trunk. If anything its a good sign that they at least check the oil often and carry it to top it off when needed. Use maintenance as leverage to negotiate a good price. At 100k miles you're pretty close to a suspension haulover which can get pricey but it's a reliable af car
Yeah I was just going to comment but you beat me to it. Oil consumption isn't what you worry about necessarily, running LOW on oil is the biggest concern and since they keep oil in the trunk they probably aren't running low.
Just check your oil weekly, getting a pre-purchase inspection done by Nissan is a great idea for any vehicle purchase though and as BD suggested a compression test will tell you everything about the vehicle that the road/drive test didn't.
