Timing chain tensioner

I have a slight grinding/clanking noise that happens at cold starts and lasts less than a second after start up. From what I understand it may be the timing chain tensioner losing pressure and since it's only a $50 part it's worth a shot.

Removing it seems easy enough but are they any tips to make sure I don't jump the timing? I plan to take off only the small cover that covers the tensioner and then removing the 2 bolts from there. Once removed, the chain will of course loosen up. I'm hoping this job can be done without taking off the entire timing cover.

Thanks in advance
