My guess is probably not since the crime was already committed.

Lol

I would imagine that would be a fine, plus a fix ticket....

Nah, the cop messed up. It's supposed to be execution on the spot for no muffler.

But seriously, get that fixed when you can. A quality exhaust (custom or off the shelf) can still be loud, but sound much better than just the wall of sound that no mufflers brings. Even a sport muffler like Vibrant makes on the end will clean up the sound a lot.

If your vehicle is polluting the air that others breathe then he should have given you another ticket for emission violations.

If the officer giving you the ticket didn't give you any instructions, call the number on the ticket and ask them how to proceed.
No muffler, what did you expect? Put the muffler back on, if you don't still have it get a Magnflow replacement muffler! With the muffler back on they may just write it off...with luck!

Look up the actual infraction and make sure you were cited correctly - I got a 'no front license plate' ticket dismissed because the officer tried to cite me for a 'altered or disfigured' plate (~$100 larger fine) instead of the 'missing front plate' which was almost the exact same code but with a different suffix.

If you're in CA that would be a fix-it ticket (he doesn't give you a fix it slip - that comes in the mail later), in which case you'll have two options:

1: fix it and go to the police station, have them look at it and sign it off, then pay a $25 fee

2: you can pay a fine that's much higher than the first options fee (probably around $150) and no further action is required.

Also, telcoman, what are you talking about polluting air? The muffler is for noise suppression only. It has no affect on emissions.

Anyone who modifies their exhaust system should have the vehicle state inspected to make sure it still meets federal emission standards.

The OP is most likely the one that drives thru residential neighborhoods at 3AM reving his engine, blasting his thumping stereo, waking people and not giving a fvck.

I mean, the catalytic converters are the only part that deal with emissions, the rest of the piping is just for quieting it down/scavenging (I guess the headers do a little bit). Should I have gotten my car tested right after I got a y-pipe back exhaust on? Bit of a non sequitur.

Well, if your complaint is noise, then yes, I completely agree (I have a few of those sh!theads in my neighborhood too), but it's not gonna affect emissions.
