So, you take the best parts of a cell phone and a GPS nav unit. Throw those bits out. And pay a monthly service fee for what's left over? Crap, wish I had been the first to believe anyone would buy that.

It can do more than that. If you're car is stolen, they can remotely disable your car. If you lock your keys in the car, they can remotely unlock your doors, etc. Get into a wreck, it can automatically dispatch ambulance, fire department, etc. It will even automatically put dispatch through on speaker mode, and the operator will try to determine if you are still conscious, etc.

GM has been licensing On-Star to a lot of companies, like Acura, Audi, etc.

I can do most of that with my phone and Nav.. Someone has been watching too many GM commercials!

They can also listen to your on going conversation in your vehicle without you knowing it. Supposeably only authorities such as FBI can request to listen in. Also dont think about getting away with " hit and run " accidents, cause they now if and when vehicle has been hit and time and place vehicle was at.
