Megan Y pipe with muffler delete and test pipes
It's me again everyone and I'm back with another decision to be made.
For those of you that don't know, I was involved in a single-car accident and spun off-road into an embankment and threw a few things out of line.
I noticed recently that there's like a rusty sounding screeching noise coming from the test-pipe and y-pipe are and I thought it was the 1 bolt that's missing from the top of the test pipe which could cause a leak, but I inspected the y-pipe and it looks dented/ out of line.
Point is, I was looking for a replacement y-pipe for my car and I know that some say it's louder if I go the HR y-pipe route or aftermarket-- but the ones who commented on that were running stock exhaust or a slightly modded exhaust. I was wondering how much of a difference would getting a megan or HR pipe would make?
Thanks ~

AFAIK, HR y-pipe sounds ever, ever so slightly louder than stock DE one, as in barely noticeable louder. I don't remember the dimensions, but I'd go HR pipe, as the Megan goes 2.5 inch (good with 2.5 test pipes) to 3 inch (gonna sound raspy/droney with stock midpipe to muffler delete, as stock midpipe is somewhere around 2.25 inches.
Best option may be to pick up an OEM one; HR pipe is worth maybe 1.5 ponies on a good day, and if you're happy with the sound before, stick with that. Z1 has used/new ones, or you could always just peruse the market here for much cheaper.

I had a Megan HR Y-pipe and it lasted about two years before having to be replaced. I live in the rust belt, so it might be different for you, but it didn't sound too much different than stock. I replaced my Megan with a cheapo Walker and I'm fine with that as well. Second time replacing it though was a PITA, since I had to press the bolts out of my CATs and I used a Harbor Freight ball joint separator to get that job done.
At this point it doesn't matter which y-pipe you select, Rock Auto may be the best place to find what you need! Whatever you buy, it won't make your exhaust sound any better!

Understood. I was looking for an HR y-pipe, but can't seem to find any for sale and I checked the z1 website and they charge around $170 for it and the megan is $160-ish-- plus it's aftermarket and new so I thought that would've been the better route.
