Stock 2JZ-GTE Twin Turbos on 03 G35 coupe

So I bought these twins stupid cheap off of a friend of mine who’s doing a 2JZ GTE swap on his Lexus is300 and I was wondering if anyone has done a swap like this before? Im not lookin to run a crazy amount of boost, so these turbos should do just fine. I’m new to the forums and would love to talk to some turbo G35 owners. Worst case scenario I can sell these turbos on eBay or something, thanks.

Theoretically it should be do-able, a snail is a snail. The "fun" part is going to be figuring out the plumbing/electronics. IIRC the 2JZ GTE uses sequential turbos, one smaller and one larger. Just using one would make your life quite a lot easier, especially if it's the smaller one (less boost=less power, but also less danger). I think people run 6-8psi on a stock block and are usually fine? YMMV.

I don't think there are many (if any) turbo G owners on here anymore, most of them have blown their engines or moved on by now. Building a VQ35 to handle boost, manifolds, exhaust, fuel, wire and tune the motor, etc. costs similar to an LS swap, and boosting a older G is not a smart idea unless you've got a built motor waiting IMO. If I were you I'd hold onto the turbos and start building an LS in your garage if you want to make the G FAST. Or even sell the turbos to finance the swap.

Yeah I don’t want to have to upgrade internals yet, maybe later down the road I could run upgraded internals and a big single but for now I’m only lookin for about 7 or 8 psi hopefully around 300-400 wheel. Good to know about the sequential, thanks

LS swaps are too generic these days, and I really don’t wanna run too much power yet

A stock internal junkyard 5.3 truck motor boosted to 600 whp is considered "detuned" and could be considered "bulletproof" with a good tune, with lots of usable torque down low even off boost. If you blow the engine for whatever reason, 5.3s are still $1000 these days all over the internet and I bet cheaper if you really look. Buy one, swap go-fast parts, repeat.

A fully built VQ35 running similar power is an awesome, difficult build but "rare" these days for a reason. They're much less streetable since all the power comes on high in the rev range, and you're always going to worry about that motor given how much money you've dumped into it, because if it blows (and it will eventually if you beat on it enough) it's going to be a big bill all over again to rebuild it... or sell your turbos, drop in a stock motor, and move on, like most of the OG boosted guys.

If you're not looking for big power, swapping in a stock or bolt-on 6.0 motor will easily get you to your power goals with the added bonus of being able to spin the stock tires at 1500 RPM... in second or maybe even third... and while slapping turbos on a stock VQ and running a conservative tune might be cheaper initially, it won't be when your engine explodes and you need to spend $5000 on a built motor which still won't be able to spin the tires at low RPM.

You might have better luck looking at the 350z guys on other sites, their cars tend to be track cars where most G owners use them mostly on the street where reliability is more of a concern.

That’s true it very well could blow but I don’t even know if a 6.0 would fit in the G without custom dab work to the engine bay because the 3.5 it already has is kinda crammed in there already.

There have been plenty of people who have done an LS2 swap into the G and there's plenty of room. It's become so common there are a few pre-made kits that make swapping the motors fairly easy.

The funny thing is you end up with more engine bay space by swapping an LS because the overall package is smaller up top and the VQ intake plenum is absolutely HUGE.

Plus the LS2 is a pushrod vs the vq a DOHC, makes the engine a whole lot taller. I've seen 6.0's in a Z and it fits well enough. Sikky and fueled racing make kits I believe for ls swaps
