New Compression rods & lower control arm issue.

So my problem was extreme tire wear mostly due to toe issues. Ate through a brand new set on the front in a month through the cords just on inside tread. I Found the bushings where shot in compression rods and lower control arms. Ordered new and installed. The issue I’m running into is the cone shaped shims that go on the joints each don’t fit properly. They actually stick through the holes a few mm when suspensions loaded that they cannot tighten anymore. Leaving a small gap therefore they have play. I made a washer shim that worked for the lower control arms but the compression rods won’t tighten enough. Im getting a clunk sound from the front end on bumps. I still need an alignment as well and I don’t want to put the new tires on till I know it’s resolved. Is there specific shims for each component? Are they sized differently as in length? The compression rods came with the shims. The bolts through control arm / compression rod holes sticks out a lot further than the factory arms the cotter pin holes are 1/4-1/2” away from the actual bolt it is to be locking in place. Wish I had taken pictures, I did however put together a quick illustration of issue.

The red would be the shim and how it’s sets leaving a gap between control arm and nut.

That's weird, my compression rod shims from the MevoTech rod I bought fit perfectly.
If I were in your shoes I'd find a washer and drill the hole out until it took up that space. Good luck.
Also, good job on the high effort second post - I hope you stick around!

Most cotter pins nowadays are more of a "final insurance" in case the fastener does loosen just to prevent it from coming ALL THE WAY off. The only time a cotter pin is going to prevent any movement is if there's a crown nut with a pin through the notches.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I did use two washers with bigger holes to take up the slack I think it’s just spinning freely now but I’m gonna hit it with an impact tomorrow at the shop I used to work at, and get the alignment and tires done while it’s there. Other than that I haven’t had any problems out of it. May have some oil consumption but just keeping tabs on it. Thanks again.
