"Hissing" from 5AT at upshift..

Has anyone else noticed a "hiss" coming from the engine bay when the 5AT upshifts at high RPM? Last night I kicked it up to 5k and right at the upshift points to 2nd and 3rd there is a "hiss" kind of like a BOV but much quieter. My car is completely stock, no turbo If anyone's heard this, is it normal? What could be causing it? Any 6MT's notice it?

to get rid of it, put it in park rev it up to 5000 rpm's, then just pull the shifter down to drive, or go 80 on the highway, then put it in park.

when upshifting in the auto, the hissing is caused by the fuel mgmt adding more gas & air to compensate for the change in RPM.

It is normal... In fact if you park beside a wall or in a garage where you can here the sound of the engine reverberate- When you place it in MM mode it will begin to hiss. When to flip it back to D the hissing goes away. That is a separate hiss from the hiss you get when the engine revs. (Just pointing that out in case you hear it- you won't freak out)

Haha well said arjunz. There's the roar from the exhaust at 5k rpm that'll scare away any living creature...and now there's the "snake hiss". Our cars are downright intimidating lol

Arrow Nope...

The hiss is the air rushing past the throttle butterfly when it closes a bit during the upshift. This is done to reduce torque during the shift, like taking you foot off the gas when you shift your 6mt. It makes the shift smoother, and reduces wear on the 5at. It gets louder with a z-tube or other intake because the path is clearer so you can hear it more.

ummm, if you do throw it into park, if its anything like other recent Nissan trannies, it will go into limp mode and you'll end up on the side of the road needing to restart the car. But from everything I've read, it wont spew its guts. just some trivia for ya.
