Finally some pics of black DigitalWheelz 7" Xenarc screen and Custom Carputer

First of all, thanks to Chuck for the install and giving a great product.

** I have a laptop under the driver's seat currently and have hidden all wires going to it.

** I use Frodoplayer and Iguidance as my front-end and GPS right now.

** The screen is a 7" Xenarc touchscreen offered at: DigitalWheelz

** Specs of the carputer are: 800 MhZ, 15 GB, 128 MB RAM and onboard sound and video.

** I'm using a PAC-AAI-NIS to get sound to my system. Sound is great with just a simple Y cable (RCA into PAC unit, other end into machine)

** I've got a USB hub underneath the seat and have my Rikaline GPS unit going into the back rear deck. Don't have any reception problems either, even with 35% tint.

Sorry for the blurry pics guys (the quality of the screen and how it looks is pretty damn sharp). Just got a new camera and gotta figure out how to work it properly.

Very nice. I've got the black housing 700v screen from DW. I thought long and hard about a carputer, but I simply don't need the fancy interface. The AVIC-90DVD is enough for me. Plus, I use the PC so much that it would become a serious hazard to have one in my car. Me and Bob are going to put it in hopefully this Saturday (knock on wood that my AAI-NIS unit and rear view cam come in)

Do you get engine whistle in your audio? Cuz that's what happens with mine, i'm using the almost exact same setup.

No I dont. There was just slight interference in my audio before because I was using an RCA extension cable because all I had around the house was a 5 ft cable which definitely wasn't long enough. I then just replaced that one with a 10-15 ft. cable and there's no interference at all. In fact I'm really surprised how good it sounds with the PAC unit in there.

As far as cost, the whole setup ran me around $750-$800 or so. The thing was I got the laptop for pretty cheap from my work because it didnt have a working screen and was about to be thrown out anyways. If you can get your hands on one, I think thats the way to go.

How are you managing to control the power on the laptop. Are you basically stuck hitting the power button under the seat every time you hop in/out of the car?

Well the laptop is hooked up via a car adapter and wired to a 12volt source. As far as the switch is concernced, I have removed the cover of the case (the monitor) because it wasn't functioning anyways. I DO have an external switch and after opening up the laptop, the switch is actually integrated into the motherboard so its going to be tougher than I thought.

What I will be doing however is getting a cheap docking station for this laptop (Around $20 on ebay or so) and from there, I can easily wire an external switch and mount that anywhere. I just haven't gotten around to it. But to answer your question, yes. I sit down in the driver's seat and just stick my arm around and flip a switch to turn it on. It really takes all of 2 seconds to do that from where I have placed the machine. As far as shutting it down, that goes automatically through the screen by a touch-click.
