04 G35 Coupe headlight and turn signal problem

Hey all,

New to the forum and new to the car. Just bought a 04 G35 coupe a couple days ago, Drive the car without any problems at all, This afternoon I went to take it to the car wash and I noticed that all the instrument lights were staying on while driving so I read a post stating to just reset the battery. also I didn't have any headlights even with the Headlight switch either the auto or on position and noticed that all of a sudden I didn't have any turn signals (Indicators on the instrument cluster doesn't even flash). Headlight fuses are fine under the hood, Could this all be in the combination switch on the steering column or a relay. Im aware of where all the fuse boxes are but I don't have a owners manual that tells exactly what each fuse controls.

I could really use come help here all and I hope to become a productive part of the community.

Thanks
Robert

Did it do this before or after you went through the car wash?

Before. Decided against the car wash once this happened. Its like one minute there working and then the next minute nothng. I have checked all the fuses under the hood and all are fine, haven't checked the ones by the foot panel yet but going to do that now.

Here's a link to the FSM, section PG - Power and Grounding is where you should start, layout for fuses for Fuse Block - J/B (driver foot panel) is on PG - 76. Lightning is section LT.

I would first clean the battery posts and lugs to make sure it's not a corrosion issue but since you lost everything related to the light control switch which is also the turn signal switch I think you may have two separate problems. A power problem for the dash light issue and either a turn signal switch or clock switch problem in the steering wheel.

Does the horn and the wiper switch all function?

Darn it..... No wipers either but the horn does work. Did check all fuses under the Drivers Kick panel and all are good and in the correct position.

I went outside to make sure it wasn't just the headlights and turn signals not working, Just realized that none of the lights that I use for night time driving are working ie brake lights or running lights. Only time I see brake lights are when I actually hit the brakes. Can anyone help me with this.

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHTS AT ALL FOR NIGHT TIME DRIVING

Really sounds like something got flooded and took out a bunch of stuff.

Is the IPDM good?

Fuse box in the driver's kickpanel good?

Do the turn signal lights all activate when you turn on the hazard switch?

If so then you probably have a clock spring that failed.

If they do NOT turn on then I suspect either a failing IPDM or BCM and you would probably want to get a diagnostic at Nissan to tell which one it is unless you can see obvious water damage in the IPDM when you take it apart.

Clock works, Flashers work when using hazards, I did the IPDM Self test ( Turn to start, Push door close button 10 times etc etc..) and headlights came on or cycled low and high beam, wipers worked, Cooling fans came on and it cycled through everything 3 times. Everything seems to be working fine except when I need to drive at night.

Headlights
running lights
Turn Signals (Flashers Work)
Brake lights (Work when brakes are Pressed)

No not the actual clock in the dash, I mean the clock spring, it's behind the airbag and used to send power through the steering wheel when it's rotated. When it goes out you typically lose the steering wheel controls, or you get an airbag code because it no longer sees the stuff that's plugged into it.

Look up a youtube video on removing it, everything will make sense. You should still troubleshoot it by probing for power to make sure it's just not the BCM that failed.

Im glad you mentioned something about the Airbag light. About 2 days before all this happened I did get the Airbag light start flashing on me out of the blue but ofcourse looked up a YouTube video on how to reset it and it went away, Do you think that could be the cause of all this.

The airbag has like 20 different codes and the most common one is for the passenger seat airbag so it's hard to say without knowing the actual code. Failing clockspring is sort of a common occurence on these cars though.

Mr Cleric I want to say to you Thank you for all your Help on this. I went and replace the clock spring Mechanism behind the steering wheel and now everything is working correctly. I have headlights, tail lights, turn signals and wipers. Never would have thought that something like that would control so much stuff. Thank you again sir.

I hope to learn as much about these cars as I know about Toyota Supras, Been a member of those forums and have a 720hp MK2 sitting here at the house. Would love to turbo one of these cars as well.
