G35 coupe 2006 trunk struts

I've had this car since 2008, when it had 4,750 mile on it (yes!). It's coming up to 60,000, and I'm doing a lot of no-contact grocery pickups. I press the trunk release button and the trunk unlocks, but doesn't lift. This may be a silly question, but is the lid supposed to lift automatically? If so, any recommendations for new struts? There are several places that sell them for about $40 a pair, and it's something I can do myself.

No, it wont automatically lift, but it should stick up maybe an inch 1/2 or so.

Thanks, Danny

Thanks, Danny. The struts hold it up, but they probably need replacing - the gap is hardly visible when I press the release button, so it's not immediately apparent to the grocery clerks.

If it slams shut when you let the lid drop then it definitely needs new struts. I didn't realize how worn out mine were until I replaced them.
