Headlight Issues
Headlight Issues
A while back, when I still had my OEM headlights, my driver side low beam went out. Suspecting it was the ballast, I ordered a new one. I also ended up just buying new headlights from Spec D. I transferred everything over and the passenger side works perfectly fine, yet the driver side low beam still doesn’t work. I used the new ballast on the driver side headlight. As I was swapping the ballasts over from the OEM lights, the ballast from the driver side had an enormous amount of corrosion and build up all over it. So it made sense that the ballast was went wrong in the first place. I’m considering pulling them off again and using the OEM ballast that’s on the passenger side and using it on the driver side just to make see if it the ballast that I got online is the reason the new headlight still isn’t working. Any thoughts?
Do i need a ballast? Any advice?
Ive had my g35 coupe for about a year and the first few months the headlughts worked (spec d projector headlights) however after some time the lowbeams gave out. So i replaced the fuses and the bulbs yet theyre still arent working. Let alone my driver side high beam also stopped working. So i bought brand new spec d headlights. Now im stuck trying to figure out why my headlights still arent working yet all my fuses are okay and my passenger highbeam is working even tho i checked for a ballast on either side and neither have a ballast. Any idea if i need to just buy ballast for the headlights or just maybe its a witing issue? Also id like to add thay the bulbs are led.
Test for VOLTAGE at the headlight harness, left side red/black stripe wire, right side red wire. You should have 12v to ground with the low beams on.
There is also a low beam RELAY in the IPDM fuse box that may have failed. You can swap it with the high beam relay to troubleshoot since you know the high beam relay is working.
Those spec d headlights are still xenon projectors, they require the use of a ballast unless the previous owner has rewired them for a full LED setup. Does it look like the factory wiring has been cut up? EXACTLY what lamps did it have in the low beam slot, were they LED replacements?
