Can you need new camshaft position sensors even if you get no codes? P0300 misfires.

I recently got the P0300 random misfire code and after changing plugs, coils, and hearing no apparent vacuum leaks I am down to the injectors as a problem (unlikely), the pcm, (questionable) and possibly the camshaft sensors. The crankshaft sensor I replaced last year yet there was a code for it at the time. This is flummoxing me. I have not checked compression as it is also unlikely given that the car had power and suddenly the misfires occurred with no warning.

There is no camshaft P0345 code, only the P0300 code and the CEL flashing at times telling me that the problem is serious. My next step is to the dreaded Infiniti dealership and we all know how THAT will go.

Just pay for a 1 hour diagnostic at Nissan/Infiniti. The $125 Consult-II diagnostic is a hell of a lot cheaper than just throwing a bunch of random parts at the car hoping something will fix the issue.

If you don't want to go the route of a diagnostic I personally would megohmeter every circuit for spark and fuel delivery, oscilloscope the cam and crankshaft sensors and watch the data being sent to the ECM, compression and leakdown test each cylinder to make sure it's not a compression issue, and flow check the injectors. I understand that these diagnostic tools aren't readily available to most folks though, that's just what I would do.

Did you replace the sensor with a Genuine Nissan OEM or Hitachi sensor? It's a widely known fact that these cars do NOT like aftermarket sensors. Hitachi was the OEM manufacturer.

If you are using an aftermarket sensor that that's very likely the issue.

You should also replace your ignition condenser since it can cause misfire issues and it's a $10 part that does wear out (like every capacitor).

Do you hear a sort of "thumping" sound coming from around your glove box area? If do you may have a fuel damper failing, the one on the right side (passenger) is the one that commonly fails.

Check fuel pressure for dropoff at various rpms, you will need a fuel rail sandwich adapter like the one sold by Z1 Motorsports. If the pressure is out of spec start by replacing the strainer baggy on the end of the pump if you don't want to throw a new pump in.

I'm going to clean the MAF sensor and change the camshaft position sensors and if that doesn't work I will spend that 125 bucks for the diagnostic. Thanks for the insights.
