Dont do it. It depreciates the value of your ride when you change the color. IMO i think it is a bit tacky. But hey its your car. In cost factors of painting your car. Paint is as good as you want to spend. $500.00-$10,000.

unless you can really drop some money on the job, I wouldn't do it... as ^^^ said, you get what you pay for... and unless you have it done right, you'll be regretting it until the last piece flakes off.

I had to contemplate this last week.... back in December, I was driving home to Austin from Houston on Christmas Eve... the night of the first snow seen in Houston in years. The Houston area being scared stiff at the sight of snow, they had slat trucks spraying every piece of conrcrete they could reach.

Well, one of their salt trucks doing 40MPH down the high way I was driving on had his salt release sprayer set to shot rocks about 4 feet high out the sides of the truck. I was shotgun blasted down the complete side of my coupe as I passed him doing 60MPH.

Last week I received my $2200 check from them TxDOT. This was the estimate from Infiniti's own contracted pain and body shop here locally to only paint the entire passenger side (all moldings and panels on the passenger side), the hood, and the rear "wrap around" bumper that we have.

Asking further how much the entire car would be, I was quoted over $5K to repaint with the original diamond graphite factory paint. So if you're looking at changing the color of the car, I'm sure it would be more to cover every area possible as far as trying to make it undetectable that the car was ever CB.

I was then basically warned against doing this. There are 2 chips that made it down to the metal on the passenger side, but the guy told me that unless I planned on parking the car, putting "velvet ropes around it like you have in the theater", and never putting it back on the road again, then he suggested not bothering with a full repaint and taking car of the worst chips myself or on a spot by spot basis.

I wouldn't call it sage advice, but he did have a point. We bought these "sports" cars to drive them as such (I do some group driving/psuedo autocross stuff)... and a new paint job isn't going to be dramatically better than the original as far as protecting against chips.

He also said any repair work including paint jobs over $2K apparently had to be reported and attached to the "history" of the car, which would definitely affect it's resale value.

Up to you, I guess.

A good quality paint job will run in the 5k range here in the northeast

I've been considering repainting for some time now as well. The original owner of my BO '03 coupe didn't take great care of the paint and the bumper/hood chips seem to multiply weekly. Way too late for a clear bra. I hate to think I would be lowering resale value if I repainted the frontend and applied a clearbra?? The "micro-chips" ~have~ to take away from resale more than repainted, wouldn't one think??

fixed a typo

It's really not worth the money to go black. If it bothers you that much, I'd look for a trade or just sell your CB and buy a black.

How could you do that to a beautiful CB though? God I love that color!

Agreed! CB is the best color for the G, IMO. Don't change it!

Repainting the hood and fascia will not lower your resale value if the paint match is good. This should cost you ~$500-$1000 depending on where you get it done, the quality of the paint, etc. It's done all the time, and yes, the chips hurt resale more than a repaint will.

Yea the CB is the best color. Thats the color i will be gettin when i get a G. Granted i'll have to buy a 03 but hey it'll save me some money in the long run! And the paint job will only lower the value if he takes it to the delaer. Like all mods if you sell yourself then you can just wait until you find a person who will pay for that specific mod and they find it worht it

As anyone informed Infiniti that their paint sucks. I have 20k on my year old coupe and the paint is so chip by rocks it's ugly. i want to trade in the car in 2 years, but now i'm thinkin' the rock chips are going to hurt the value of my car.

Just remember one thing- a great repaint is never as good as a poor factory paint job. Unless you take it to a real pro who removes everything from the body, you will wind up with crap if you look hard enough. Fisheyes, orange peel, drips/runs, overspray, etc are usually the result of a repaint
