rear main seal and lower pan gaskets part#
Hello all,
I'm going to change my rear mail seal as it is leaking, but it seems there are other gaskets I should also replace while there. Can someone provide me a list of the rear main seal part number, but also the list of any other components to also replace, such as the lower oil pan gasket? And if there is anything else one should do so I don't have to take out the transmission again.

Thanks.

Yes, I saw a nice video showing what happens if you don't drop the pan and try to jam the seal in there.
Anyone have part numbers and what is the consensus on using OEM vs someone like Felpro for gaskets.
I ask as I tend to use Felpro often and "The Right Stuff" for RTV. But on this car people might suggest otherwise.

The lower pan (at least on my '04) does not use a gasket, only RTV (Ultra Grey).
They make a lower pan gasket, but if you have the 24 hours for the cure time on the Permatex Ultra Grey RTV then you're better off with that since it has better longevity compared to a rubber gasket.
If you need the car on the road the same day then a rubber gasket is your best option.
If you have a 6MT you might as well replace the transmission throwout bearing while you're in there and relube all the friction points with moly grease.
I also recommend getting an oil pan spacer (Z1 sells one for cheap), adds an extra 3/4 quart of oil capacity.
