Anyone ever taken off the resonator in front of the air filter?
I just installed a Z-tube and now I'm going to install a K&N air filter.
Looking at the intake of the car, it seems pretty restricted. Has anyone ever removed the resonator (Part #8 in diagram) for more airflow into the airbox? I'm not sure if it's possibly though, it may support the air cleaner case (Part #10). Gonna check it out tonight.

It doesn't support the air box, and it's a pain to take out. I don't think it will provide more air since it only has a small opening to that resonator. I took it out because I put in a NISMO intake. Goodluck.
restrictions... ever noticed where the hood bumper hits the front end support?
Take a look... yes, right in front of the intake for part #5.
DaveO actually dremeled/ported out the support under #5 to allow more air.
Most of your air is coming from 7 and 5 anyway. There is a Stillen hose for the 350z that ducts in from the front lip to the bottom of the collector (#10).

more noise does not always equal more power. i've removed the silencer on some of my past cars and every single time I ended up putting it back on. i consistently noticed wierd dips in my low end powerband and funky "tip-in" without the airbox / silencer.
there was an article in SCC a while back that demonstrates this when they modified the intake on a focus, and the removal of the silencer created some turbulent airflow across the MAF sensor which caused erratic airflow readings.
