Chirping from rear tires

Does anyone else have this problem:

I have a 2004 coupe 6mt, and when I drive straight at about 15-25 mph, I can hear a chirping noise from the rear tires. The noise is very consistent, and sounds like it is being produced with every revolution of the tires.

I took my car into Passport Iinfiniti, VA. The service reps said this was a "known issue" but there was no fix. They said it's normal to hear the brembo brakes making this noise around 30 mph. I find this VERY hard to believe as the noise can be very loud. Even with the windows shut, in traffic, I can hear the chirping.

Maybe I just only notice this becuse I drive in straight traffic to work every day...so I always seem to be going around 30mph.

Has anyone else seen this issue or had it fixed??

Thanks.

Jason

very hard to distinguish when you say chirping. what exactly did the rep say in regards to it being a known issue?

Well, it's more like a sqweaking noise... like the brakes are rubbing against the rotors or something.

The dealer said it had been reported several times on 6mt coupes with brembos - that's how it's a known issue. They said it was just "the way the brembos are made"

Get new pads. I cant comment on if that is "normal", but new pads should fix the problem.

My Brembo's will just start squeeking out of the blue.....and then quit.
I think it is normal with the stock pads.

Exactly the same here.

It was worse during the break-in period, but it has since been quieter and less frequently.

In my case, It seems to be the dust from the pads...I dont notice it after a good wash..

I think wat Jason is saying is that he hears it while there are no brakes applied.

For the squeeky brembo's its usually after you wash your car or rain. the oxidation
on the rotors burn onto the pads causing the squeek. Quickest way would be to
brake a little firmer to clean it off, or if that doesn't work, put a dot of WD40 on
your rotor while cold. Don't put too much as the oil will prematurely wear your pads.

This actually doesn't happen while I'm braking. In fact, when I brake, the sound goes away. The noise either occurs while i'm coasting, or accelerating. It's always right around 20mph.

I have the same thing. Its caused by the pads lightly touching the rotors, and the wonderful Brembo brake pad material which is prone to squeeking. Nothing that can be done about it really, unless you want to change out your Brembo pads for another brand. There are several companies that make replacement brake pads for the Brembo calipers.

Do NOT put WD-40 on your rotors!! You will die if you do. Not even a little "dot".

Actually, I just resolved this(hopefully) with a tech at the Tustin Infiniti dealer yesterday. While I couldn't get the noise to replicate during our test drive, I talked to the tech about it during the drive. He got out and checked when we got back to the dealership. He moved the hardware on the rear calipers and a similar noise was heard. The caliper pins that hold the brake pads and the spring like device that attaches to it appear to be rubbing. He put a light amount of moly lube on it and so far, no noise. Unfortunately, the moly-lube will wear out over time so I'll have to regrease it occassionally. I may look for other possible solutions when I take a closer look at it.
