How many here are getting cold feet?
How many here are getting cold feet?
How many of you folks waiting to place your order are getting cold fee?. I'm on four different G35 Coupe websites and if you know what I'm talking about, they seem to have lots, and I do mean lots of different manufacturer defects(crappy brakes, crappy interior, crappy 6-disc player, cheap interior, tires wear out at 10K, etc.). I'm thinking about looking at my prior first choice for replacement of my 2K SE Max, it is a 330CI. Sorry for the long post, just wondering.
Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
Dude I am on those same forums... and those are the very few exceptions.. there is always going to be a problem or two with all types of vehicles... Just look at all the folks who are really happy with their "G"..... Go to another car forum and then relax with your fine and correct choice of car....

The first thing you have to remind yourself of, is you hear a disproportionate number of problems compared to problem-free cars. People tend to speak out when something's wrong, and keep quiet when everything's okay.
Second, is that the real problems are being addressed, and there really aren't too many of them left. Some of them aren't problems, but personal opinions.. such as "crappy interior." I like my interior, it's not crappy at all, and it's several orders of magnitude better than the 92 Accord I was driving last year. Go test drive one and decide for yourself. Other "problems" aren't so much problems as simply misunderstandings of high-performance vehicle wear. Yeah, brakes and tires are going to wear out faster -- Corvettes and BMW's, for instance, tend to have a similar issue here (and there are a few with really premature wear, but not all).
The 6-disc player isn't crappy, and BMW won't give you a changer in the dash at all, though you can mount one in the trunk. Some of them do jam (mine did), but they'll replace the unit.
No manufacturer is immune from this. BMW's new 7 series is having similar growing pains.
The 330 is a fine car, too. Personally, I think if you're going to spend this kind of money on a car, you should go test drive every one in the class that even remotely interests you. I drove a CTS, TL-S, S60, A4, G35, and 330i -- then went back and re-drove the 330i and G35.
I think you'd be happy with either car. But a 330 with the sport package is going to have similar quick wear of brakes and tires. And it won't look as good wearing them out.

Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
Well said Ryo
I have a issue with the car .... I wont get into it now... the point is .....along with all of the other posts above.
Are you looking at the glass as half full or half empty?
Because its sounds like the latter.
If so, maybe you should buy a used car, as not to disappoint your initial and ongoing opinion.
OR .. you can get a G, which with all things considered, is according to everyone with one or waiting the BEST choice overall.
Good luck

Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
Problem free products do not exist. No matter what it is that is manufactured out there, there are going to be some defects on some of the items that are produced. Just check the forums of other car manufacturers.
The G is an awesome looking, well built sport coupe that is a blast to drive.
Go ahead. Don't buy one. I would rather see less on the road anyways. More compliments for those of us who own and appreciate them. It will be your loss!

Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
I too have read the posts your reffering to. This is from a group of enthusiasts that whine if something is not 100% perfect and exactly what (in thier mind) they expect.
You don't hear about the people that have no problems, therefore it sounds like EVERYONE has something wrong, thus the car is a POS.
My car has about 4000 miles. The only isssue I had is the grease streak on the window. Otherwise it is awsome.
I have (wifes) a Lexus IS300. It had a minor problem too. BUT go to the Lexus board and it seems like either everyone there has a problem or they ALL modify & race their cars.
Same is true when I had my Mercedes CLK. No problems, but go to the MB board and OMG you would think every MB was falling apart. Those guys were incredible.
Don't read too much into those complaints. You'll get a fine car. JD Power rated Infiniti #3 or #4 in Quality. Lexus was 1, Cadillac was 2.
BTW: for the last 2 weeks I have been driving my friends '01 330CI so I could park it in my lot on a busy street with a for sale sign on it. (he got an M3) I can honestly say, that car (after living with it for more than a test drive) is the most un-satisfying car I have ever driven. I hated it!!! Yet I too wanted one when they first came out.

I think it would be very interesting if someone posted a poll to see how many of us have problem-free cars thus far.
We all hear it when there are problems. But obviously, no one ever just checks in to say that their car has been flawless. So far, so good for me (knock on wood).

Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
For first year in production the G35C for me has been awesome I haven't had any problems or premature tire wear.
But when I got my first new car it was a '99 BMW 328i. I got it the very first month it came out and man that car was a b!tch. It was fun when it had no problems, that car had problems like no other car I had: had a bunch of recalls, Harmon Kardon system always malfunctioned, wheels were always going out of alignment, rusty brake calipers, warping brake rotors, rough idle at times, malfunction memory seats and keyless entry system and the list goes on and on.

Buy what makes you feel good bro. I like my Coupe so far. Only issue is poor gas mileage.

Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
I just purchased the coupe 4 days ago, 6 spd manual, premium, aero. Overall this is an excellent car all around. Brakes: outstanding, the best I've ever had on a car. Gas Mileage: Not great, but you can't expect a car with that much power to get 35 mpg, its just not possible. Interior: Excellent for a car of this price, far superior to the 350z, but not perfect. True there are some nit picky things that could have been improved on: Side mirror control not behind the steering wheel, Memory for the seat(s), etc. Im sure for 80k you could get a Lexus or something with some of these issues resolved. But with a price tag of 30-35k its a TON of car for the money. Most people who have driven one and looked at other cars in that price range would agree.
Re: How many here are getting cold feet?
Well, I've been getting cold feet for a different reason. I'm not concerned about the quality of the car, because even if there are issues, that's what the warranty is for. Instead, here is why I've been getting cold feet:
- You guys will probably laugh, but this will be my first Japanese car. My first foreign car even. All my life I've always owned Fords or GM's, and grew up in an American car family. If you talked to me 10 years ago, you couldn't pay me to own a Japanese car. I've come a long way since then, and so have Japanese cars. But I'm still nervous that its 'just not me'.
- My current car ('96 Ford Contour SE with 130k miles) is still running great and is still fun to drive. I have somewhat of an attachment to this car and will be sad to see it go. Since its running so well, I feel like I'm replacing it with a new car before its time. Although if something major did break, the car is worth so little that it wouldn't be worth fixing. Kind of a weird situation. The car is in great condition, but if one major thing broke, its like totaled.
- I want the G35C, but I don't NEED it. I already have a performance car (Z06), and my G35C will be my daily driver, but my current daily driver serves that purpose perfectly well now, and costs me little to operate. I feel sinful buying the G35 because its fulfilling a desire, not a need.
- Probably the most important reason for my recent cold feet is my company is rumored to be taken over by a much larger company soon, and if that happens, there's a good chance I'll be laid off, and may have to move (again) for another job. All that uncertainty around a new car lease has gotten me a bit concerned. I could pay for the car in cash right now, but I'm saving that cash to buy a house with, not waste on a new car I don't need.
So what do you think? My order was placed in April for a late June/July delivery. Another dealer called me yesterday to say that he has my car in stock now if I want it (someone cancelled), but I decided to just wait for my original order to give me time to get over my cold feet.
Its weird, because everytime I've ordered a new car in the past, I couldn't wait to get it, and the anticipation killed me. This car, I don't mind waiting at all.

Hey Bill hows that Laser Red? he he. (2K) I have had a few bugs in my car. It's to be expected when it's the first year of new model. You think that the 330CI was this good in it's first year? Think again. Just imagine what a third generation G coupe may be like. It just takes time, but more truthfully is in the eye of the beholder. I think that the car has outstanding, the best car I have EVER had. To each his own, but you should take a test drive before you condem the car cuz' I think some of the things you are hearing you would hear on any site including the E46 crew. I'm of for a cruz see you gent's later.
