Question AM I Getting a Good Deal? On an 05 AT Coupe

Hi all, first message on this board, please help.

I'm looking to by a new '05 AT Coupe.
Here are the specs:
Exterior - Athens Blue, Interior - Graphite Leather
Options and packages:
P01 Premium Package
U01 Infiniti Navigation Package
T01 Performance Tire and Wheel Package
R01 Aero Package
B94 Splash Guards

The R01 can't be factory-installed with the T01 but the dealers have ensured me they can dealer install it.

I live in Southern California and the tax here is 7.75%.
I went to one dealer and having not read that other "Tips" thread, I almost walked out paying too much ($40,250 out the door). Resisting my urge I left and called another dealer to have them battle each other. I know the tip about only talking to the Fleet or Internet Managers, and both of these guys claim they were such.

To make a long story short I got a quote of $39,800 out the door from the second dealer, which I promptly relayed to the first, but only now I changed the quote to $39,500. The first "laughed" at me in his reply, but surely enough he emails me back again 10 mins later saying he "miscalculated" his quote, and that he can sell it for $39,500 out the door. I emailed him last night saying if he can make the out-the-door price no higher than $39,500, and give me the 5.98% APR he promised, that I would take it. I would like to have a lower APR but it's my first car and he said that's the lowest he can go. Is that right, any suggestions on that as well? He told me my "auto credit score" was 699 with no previous auto financing history.

I haven't heard back from him today yet, but assuming he would be able to pull that off, my question is is this a good price and why did he go so low?
I went on Edmunds.com and found out the invoice price for this loaded car at around $38,700 after destination charge and 7.75% tax, but before other fees.
At $39,800 out the door I would be paying about $1k over invoice, and at $39,500, about $700-$800 over invoice. I don't know what's up this guy's sleeve, if anything, so I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Thanks so much!

I just bought my G35 this past weekend...nearly identical options as yours without the navigation option. I paid 37,500 out the door. I was offered a 2.9% APR and it was my first car and I am also very new to the credit industry. I am sure you can get a lot lower than that. Basically the quote you are getting seems a little high even with the navigation option in it. But then again, you live in California, I am on the east coast and the tax is only 3 percent in my area.

thanks silver

stylez- how did you get your APR to so low? Did you have to do any haggling with that as well?

Why do some auto loan companies online list 4.99% as the lowest?
Should I try my bank or some credit union?

Can someone give me some suggestions on that aspect too please?

to qualify for top tier APR, you really need 720+ Fico score....

You should be paying only slightly over invoice. I picked up an 05 Coupe 6mt all options except nav for $200 over invoice. This is the best time to buy a coupe so I wouldn't pay over 500 over invoice ESPECIALLY if you are financing through them.

Thanks, yes, one dealer explained to me about their so-called tiers of platiunum and gold, and my score was a silver, but the thing that hurt more was my lack of auto credit history.

Does anyone know how I may be able to lower my APR?

I am almost certain that Infiniti is part of "Drive to a million" sales event (Which ends March 31st). I asked a salesman that and they said they were not involved. However, it just seems that these dealers are pushing out the 05s, I read somewhere that some guy in Atlanta got $100 over invoice!

Also, don't forget that the dealer has a 1.5% holdback from Nissan on the coupes. So even on my deal the dealer made around $700. I did the whole thing by email. Emailed 5 dealers, and 2 of them wanted to wheel and deal. The other ones would barely move from MSRP. One offered $400 over invoice on a Silver/Black which I liked. So I emailed the dealer who had the DG/Stone that I was interested in and said no thanks. 5 mins later he shoots an email back saying he will do it for $200 over invoice. Put the deposit down right after that.

It definintely pays to shop around. Email is a GREAT thing. No fuss no muss, great deal that only took around 30 mins of my time.

I had a credit score of 725, I guess that is why I was given a 2.9% rate.

Negotiate final cost. DO NOT tell them you are financing. Tell them you haven't decided yet. Don't let them pull that low monthly payment BS. I paid cash but I told them I didn't know if i was paying cash or financing.

Use Infiniti's website to locate the dealers within 25-50miles from you who have a coupe that is configured to your liking. Then just email away. Good luck and let us know how you do! Remember, unless you need to test drive a car or know someone at the dealership don't waste your time haggling in person.

The G that I am getting delivered next week is EXACTLY as you described yours. My only difference is the sirius satellite. mine is a dealer installed antenna that is hidden.

I got my car for 38.5

If you can do similar, I would feel youre doin a good job.

Ok... sounds like you have the same setup I did. I have a couple more things (Aero Body Kit and Side moldings)but its pretty similar. I got a Lakeshore Slate AT 05 for $38000 with tint thrown in, but this was with a corporate VPP program (2 weeks ago).

My configuration:
Power Sunroof
Premium Package
Sport-Tuned Suspension Package
DVD Infiniti Navigation System
Body Side Moldings
Aerodynamic Body Kit (with Spoiler)

Based on this, I bet you can get lower numbers than the 39500 they're quoting you. Because I got this through a corporate program, you might not be able to match the price, but I think anything around $38500 is reasonable.
