Hybrid G35's

I'm not a tree hugger or anything, but the one glaring weakness of the G35 is the crappy fuel economy; almost the deciding factor in me getting another car. The only thing this car is missing is a hybrid engine. This would really help with stop and go traffic. I've driven the Honda hybrid and it is just awesome. The only thing is that I have read Ghosen (CEO) mention that hybrids only make sence in SUV's and trucks and that they would not be used in regular cars.

It makes me kinda wish the new Mitsubishi Eclipse was out already. It is a hybrid and looks awesome.

Dude...its not a honda insight....I'm not saying that its impossible to make a car both sporty and a hybrid, but the public won't associate those two words....plus nissan has no reason to bulid an entire new engine for a car thats already working with a proven one. Bottom line, if you want performance you have to give up fuel economy...if you drive your G and shift at 1.5k rpm in every gear you'll get great fuel economy.

Maybe, and maybe not. I see absolutely no mechanical reason why a sports car cannot be a hybrid. One of my biggest complaints with eco friendly vehicles is that they are ugly and boring.

I assuming that there really is no market demand for such a vehicle, but I can't wait until there is. Not only is my car's fuel usage starting to affect my wallet (relatively speaking...I bought a 30k car, I can afford the gas....but it is much more expensive these days) but I'm starting to feel a tad bit guilty about how inefficient it is.

Buy a Prius as your commuter and bring your G out on weekends.

Environmentally friendly sports cars are closer than you may think. If the public demands it, they'll make it.

The DN-X is equipped with a 400 horsepower hybrid powertrain that uses a high-output, 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine to power the rear wheels and an advanced electric IMA system for additional power to all four wheels. This package promises exhilarating performance and, for a performance car, an impressive 42 miles to the gallon.

i guess its something that we have to get used to. It's weird to thing of a hybrid as a performance vehicle.

The guilt wears off, just press the "Happy pedal," repeat as necessary.

Luckily, it's not a very publically known fact as to how bad our mileage is/can be. People spend most of their time bad mouthing the more conspicuous Hummer types. Thanks GM for taking one for the team.

The new Eclipse is supposed to be a hybrid and looks like a smoking car. I don't see a hybrid as something that would reduce horse power. Mainly it would help in stop and go traffic in town. My want for fuel efficiency doesn't really come from saving the planet, so much as keeping our reliance on the middle east to a minimum, but I guess that kinda disscussion is for a different forum.

Are you sure? It is a concept, but I think the future will bring many performance vehicles that are fuel efficient as well.

The V6 Accord hybrid reportedly gets barely better fuel economy than the non-hybrid version. I think the answer for now is making more fuel efficient engines rather than making everything a hybrid.

But fuel econ. does suck, and hybrids have pretty good pick-up. I don't see why you couldn't have a hybrid coupe. Not everyone drives this car like a bat out of hell anyway. It would be great for city driving, and when I need to gun-it it switchs over to gas.

Thing is, the Ford GT, corvette, any real power cars are getting really good mpg ratings for what they do.

I think the coupe should read: 18city 27highway

ahh you found it... thats a hybrid and if that were to come out for the right price people would be all over it. however, its toyota's super car so it would competing with the best of them in that class, but lets not forget they did make the supra. and even with almost 10 years of them being extinct they still can damn near match or take a lot thats on the roads today.
