Test drove the '05 6MT today
I went up there to really look at the differences of the interior choices. And I wanted to look at the exterior colors as well, as I'm tossing between IP and DG, back and forth.
I walked around and milled about for a while looking at all the colors, they have every color except Red in the back. I wanted to see the Stone interior and compare to the graphite, looked at wheat as well. All the doors were locked, obviously, so I headed inside and met a very nice salesman, finally! He took me for a ride, stopped the car, opened the hood, and trunk and showed me all the features. The first guy I dealt with a few weeks ago was a ***** and this was a welcomed change, told him I appreciated it.
On to the ride. I was very impressed with the suspension. I mean Infiniti really got this right. From reading threads of people complaining, I expected a bone jarring sports ride. But it was anything but that, it was stiff but compliant. Maybe I'm nuts, but I like to feel what the road is doing underneath me, and I like that translated to the driver, without getting knocked around in my seat, or getting annoyed. This car does that extremely well. We drove across some choppy pavement, a bit of it actually, and it was a perfect balance between luxury and sport. The car had 30 miles on it, and the salesman told me I could light it up, but I didn't. Someone else will buy that car (it was BS in color) and I wasn't going to f up the breakin, if someone else does that test driving, that is their business. I wanted to like hell, so I could see what that V6 would do, but I wouldn't want anyone doing that to the car I was buying.
I jacked with the seat for a while (my only concern in doing a test drive), and got a good position, I'm 6'2" for those who are milling the decision over as I am, I didn't have any problems with the seat. I can't get it in that perfect position like I can my past Hondas and Acuras, but it was good enough. Being this size, you have to make some sacrifices, but not much really. If you've been in Acuras/Hondas, the seating position in those, to me is 100%, and this would be like 90-95% for comparison sakes.
The IP is really nice, you guys that got the IP/G combo have my envy. I would have bought one today if they still made that combination. No offense to anyone, we all have our opinions. But to me, that Wheat interior is just nasty. I guess I just don't like brown, or any tint of it, in anything, cars, clothes, carpet, well maybe certain types of carpet if you know what I mean
I didn't like it, worst interior color choice for me, and that brown dash is even worse. #2 is the stone. It looks better, but if I didn't look hard enough, I'd swear it was the same color as the Chevys that Hertz has stuck me with when I rent from them on business trips. I think the Graphite interior looks best on this car, and just looks right. I looked in the M, at that graphite interior, and it was even better, wish they could migrate that chit over to the coupe, it was sweet!
I got told by the salesman, and his boss, that you can't order a 6MT WITHOUT the premium package. I told him that I've read online (but didn't mention the name of this forum) of people doing so. I told him I only wanted the sunroof and aero packages. He then called over another salesman, that he said orders all the coupes, he repeated the same thing, they don't make this car without the premium package. So I've got 3 salesmen telling me the same thing now
I thought that was pretty funny, the salesman also told me that it had 280HP, and some other little mistakes, but he was a nice guy and I'm sure he's not a coupe nut. I'll be ordering my car from him when I can decide on color. The chief salesman, told me I could get the IP in Graphite, if I'd shell out an extra $1700 to have the upholstery redone. I laughed. Good experience though, and I like the fact that I'd always get an Infiniti loaner during service, as Acura has deal me to the rental car bs before when they run out of Acuras at 7am in the morning

i ran in the same exact problem, with the interior choice, and If they had IP on blk id get it, but i choose the sexy blk on blk and i love it, also you can get a base one ive seen it, i dont know bout having sunroof and not premium package that might be hard, but you can get a base one without anything for 33,000 but id really recommend the NAVI for more things than just a address, its a great luxary if it can be afforded
I'm new to this board and this is my first post.I've ordered 05 6mt dg w/graphite ,aero package and sunroof WITHOUT the premium pkg.

When I was shopping around for my car, I often got quotes that "automagically" had the premium package figured into the price. When I questioned this, I was told the same thing you were. Just go some where else man... If savings some dough is a concern, order without premium, especially on the 6MT (you don't get intellikey, memory seats on the premium for the 6MT).
And what you said with the black interior, I agree, I wanted Lakeshore slate in a big way, but man I just thought the car needed black interior, so I ended up with DG exterior.

Ditto. I've got a DG/Stone 6MT on order without premium, navi, or sunroof. Don't let them insult your intelligence, go elsewhere.
A lot of people ask me why no bragging gear such as premium? Well, I am not much of an electronics guru, and stuff like powered steering wheel adjustments... I'm not that lazy that I can't manually adjust the steering wheel. It takes like two seconds to do. The navi is cool, but not 2 grand cool. The ammount of cash I saved with not getting the extra stuff will be better spent on other things such as tinted windows, and etc. Final cost to me was 33,000 even for DG/Stone 6MT, sport package (of course) with 4 piece body kit. For me that was much better than 38 grand for the same car with stuff I'd rarely use. Oh yeah, the BOSE isn't worth it either, the stock 6 disc in-dash sounds nearly as good.

I have done inventory searches for SoCal, and we definetely have base G's here...but its really random and most likely wont be the color you want...

The dealership where I ordered my '05 blk/graphite coupe has almost every colored 6MT with just sunroof, aero and splash guards. Seems like NY has a lot of coupes in stock these days!!

Sounds like me, I really don't want to pay for a soundsystem that sucks *****. Either way, with the stock stereo or the bull**** premium edition soundsystem, it's getting replaced because neither is worthy of any praise. But I listen to people here, and they'll try to convince you to buy a Kia because you don't want pricy options that do jack. You are being cheap, etc. Nahhh, some of us invest wisely and pay for what we are going to use, and what is worth the $. That extra $ I save is going for investments or something else, I'm not spending my $ to make you happy. I'd rather spend the $ on some nice mods that do something, rather than some fluff. That premium edition package is the biggest crock I've heard of. Too many people bitch about the Bose stereo system enough to make me not want to buy it. Instead of blowing that $, I'd rather buy everyone a beer that spaired me the expense of being a fool and paying a premium price for a generic product
You know what, I can turn the lights on when I think it's dark, or flip the mirror if I'm in front of someone that is too cheap to replace their factory bulb (using the damn brights), and my last concern on the Earth is dual climate control. If you don't like the temperature, get out of the car, it's my *** making the payment.
$2k + for that package, when I take delivery, if I fall for that sucker deal, knock me upside the head please
