I made this vid to show a few people who know Nissan engines really well.. Their answer? Sounds like a VQ. My maxima did it. The loaners I get do it. The dealer thinks its normal, injector noise. Sounds funky to me when I'm next to a wall (like at the bank).

I'm pointing the camera where the manual says to look to diag engine sounds.

It's the injectors mostly, possibly a little bit of the timing chain movement, and the fan. It's fine. My Acura 3.2L J32A2 engine did it also. Same deal.

In the 6MT, you will hear a louder noise coming from the transmission when the car is in netural and foot off of the clutch (out). This is most noticeable when you are garaging the car or are parking next to a wall so that the sound is reflected in to an open window. I could be wrong, but I don't recall it sounding louder when the clutch is depressed and the shifter is in gear.

mine is top end. not the tranny or a fan, or cooling exhaust. Definately from the injector area. Or I might have a valve that needs a shim.

Even tho the car runs great (and great oil reports), I dont like the noise and have looked into doing a valve adjustment. WOW, what a mess. Have you guys seen the process for adjustment? Its easy to see why alot of VQs tick at the top end.

I hear it more on the driver's side.

I'm pretty sure it is just valvetrain noise. With all that valvetrain, it is bound to make some noise. No big deal really!

Man, you scare easily. I save my fear for the times when my engine goes kabooom! The sound of metal contracting is way below my fear threshold.

Yeah, that's why no one ever does an adjustment. For the most part, it isn't necessary. My VQ had about 140k on it when I sold it. It ticked like a sowing machine from day 1 and never got any worse over 7 years.
