clutch slipping in the 05 6mt
please dont bash, i bought the car with my own money and to enjoy it. but heres what im worried about:
i just put my regular tires back on last weekend, and this is my first ever rear wheel drive car, so i wanted to do a burn out.... i go 4.5k rpm, drop the clutch and omg the burning clutch smell... i could feel the car reving, but tires not moving at all. the vdc was off. i got scared. i tried again on a wet parking lot... same thing. feels like the clutch cant handle the drop from 4k+ rpm or is there something wrong with my car? when i do it, its like, i can feel it slipping and the car just standing there, it never engages.
btw both times were in an OPEN parking lot with no cars or light poles or anything, so it was safe

yea normal driving is fine, never felt the clutch slip other then that, only when i punch it in first. this is my first mt, but not the one i learned on, ive driven many before like my parents and friends cars
Engine rev with no wheel rotation and a burning smell means your burning up your clutch. If youve noticed that burning smell and it wasnt comming from your tires, it most definately means you have burnt your clutch. I hope im wrong but your going to notice the clutch slip more often.
I did the same, and now i am having to replace my clutch at 16K miles. The stock clutch in this car cannot handle dumps.
My advice is stop dumping your clutch or else you will need to get a new one soon, just like me.

I did this once and realized that this is the WRONG way to launch a G35. When the RPMs are above 3000 and you dump the clutch, there's nothing you can do to make it grab. The clutch plate will just spin against the flywheel. The stock clutch is not "grabby" in any way, shape, or form. It takes alot of finesse and practice to get a good launch with these cars. I would not go above 2500 if even that high before the clutch hits the engagement point. Once the clutch starts to engage, that's when you give it hard throttle. But even then, you have to practice to become efficient.
Umm... did they make the clutch crappier for the 05 or something?
Ive never had a problem hooking up at 3K. 4K is the maximum recommend drop in for max acceleration (most magazines said they tested the 0-60 from 4000rpm digs) so 4.5K shouldnt be "too much" for it to handle. Hell I've dropped in from 5-5.5 just to kick up some rubber in parking lots never had a problem at all..... Drive the car like I stole it and when I went in for service they said my clutch had very little wear on it, after 36K of abuse none the less. Guess its all just technique.
