Tires Suggestions

With my '03, I talked to a Nissan mechanic, who is himself a racer, and someone I consider to be really on the ball. He is the head mechanic at the dealership. We looked at my tire wear front and back, inside to outside, left and right, measuring wear bars at each of these locations and comparing against a new Pilot Sport's listed tread depth (see the Michelin website). Despite the fact that I don't really go in for the 0-60 thing, I don't mash it in first too often, and I really enjoy hammering twisties away from the attention getting city, we found that I was within 1.5mm on the bars in back, and still had more than half wear remaining in front. His advice: Replace the rear tires only, with a new set of Pilot Sports (my brother-in-law works for Michelin, which eases the pain somewhat; 45% being somewhat). I did this, and was pleased with the result. Additional- every year it was necessary to rebalance the wheels (they were significantly off), and have an alignment done each spring, to be sure that wear remains nominal. I also found the car to be more responsive, less twitchy and the tires properly wearing, by setting the tires at 34 front, 33 rear. This setting change was firmly endorsed by the mechanic I referred to earlier.
