Angry I need some advice?

Well, I picked up my new DG/Stone 6MT on Friday. All was awesome until I called the dealer back on Saturday to ask them about the gas that was put in the car. To no surprise of mine, they said they filled er up with 89 octane. The service department and the salesman both said, "Oh, we've always filled the V6s with 89..." Well, I explained to them that the MANUFACTURER clearly states to never use 89 unless emergency, and to fill it up no more than half a tank with it. So, now I have a full tank of 89 octane. I tried to siphon the gas out my self with no success (the filler neck is designed to eliminate this). What should I do? I don't want to drive this thing with crappy gas that could ruin components?

don't worry about it and just go easy on the accelerator, don't rev too high or
put too much load on the motor. Just use it up to about half and put premium
gas in. If you want, you can even add some toulene to increase octane, but
you don't need to. when it's at half again, add more premium and just drive
it until 1/4th, then fill up. You should be fine.

Thanks, I'm used to American V8s, not sure how lower octane levels affect today's high performance, high tech engines.

I personally would use 1/4 tank and fill up with 93 octane, then another 1/4 and another....and then you will be fine.

Yeh, I know what you mean. my buddy use to have a modded Z28 and
while he drove it from IL to CA, he wasn't able to get the high octane
he was usually using (usually 93, he used 90) during his trip and got a CEL.

On our J-NA motors it's usually not a problem...you just don't get the full
power you should be getting and risk knock (maybe) at wot under
heavy load.

I recommend at 1/2 tank because it is better to increase octane as
soon as possible and gradually so the ECU does not trigger a CEL (latter
part might be pschological. )

Good advice.

But if the car is new, I wouldnt be driving it that hard anyway, so you should be okay.

I have a custom 65 chevelle that I've had since I was 15 years old, It definitely doesn't like 89 octane (too much compression).

Thanks for the replies guys.

Angry

Ok, I just talked to an Infiniti technical service rep. He said to take it back to the dealer immediately. He said the ECU in the car is not set up to run low octane and that piston burning WILL occur. Apparently many dealerships put the cheap gas in the cars to save a few pennies. If you recently picked up your car or have one on the way, I would definitely check to make sure they put the correct fuel in the car. He also told me to have the dealer document the mistake so that future reliability issues can be traced back to the problem. WOW, what a pain in the ****!

i can't imagine that just using up the one tank on 89 octane can do any damage to the car. i can understand if you frequently use lower octane gas, it can eventually do harm but one time.....that would be sad.

My take was that it could potentially harm the break-in process. He also said that the use of octane boost can void the warranty. He said the dealer needs to pump the fuel out and refill the tank.

I just took delivery of my G (used) last Tuesday.....got done with the transaction and the salesman asked for the keys to fill up my car....my answer was "Premium only."...he was like, "what?"....again I answered "premium only"....he said, "uh...uh...we don't ha"....I interrupted him...."that's cool" I said, "I'll fill it up later"....I had to drive 120 miles home from there and wasn't about to do it on 89 octane....Sure is scary buying from a used car dealer....never know really what's been done to the poor car....at least they only had in their inventory for less than a week...I just choose not to think about it and enjoy my ride and the deal I got on it...

What's even scarier is the fact that probably 90% of the new car dealers are filling up cars with gasoline that is in violation of the manufacturers instructions. Just think how many miles your car ran before you had it with less than 91 octane. I am extremely p'ed off!
