Anyone else think the G35 is slow

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
I think redrok is right.. since my E55 was a v-8, I still have that sensation in how fast it was. But still what confuses me is how many people say this car is fast. But I found this not to be true. Or at least sensation of speed is not there. The gear that I am disappointed the most is second gear. OMG it has to pull to it. Today on the freeway going at 60mph, I dropped it into 3rd gear to see how it takes off and then into 4th and I wasn't to impress.
Man. Okay, the next time a car hits me up to race on the freeway, I'm going to race them. Usually I don't cause I don't see the point of racing on the freeway. We have to many damm cars in la. Hopefully I can gauge how fast or slow my car really is.
Does resetting ECU effect for Manuel Cars too?

Don't feel bad Wreck it's been at least 10 years for me as well and I'm still saving for my G because I just bought a house. I remember San Fernando Rd, Gardena, etc. Shoot, I remember cruising Laurel Cyn. looking for some Brownies.
Ah, to be young with a G... oh yeah and single too.

Laurel cyn.. LOL.. yah its been a long time since I did that run. I can't tell you how many time I had to send my car to the bodyshop doing that run.
Congrats on the house. I'm doing the opposite. I bought my G first, then I plan to buy a house. House are to damm expensive right now!!!

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
great topic. i've had my g35c for a week now, and i was having some of the same damn thoughts... i love the car, and there is more to a sports car than how quick it is in a 1/4 mile or off the line.
i'm in nor cal, and its starting to get hot in the day time, and i can feel a difference in acceleration when driving in mid day temps vs driving at night time, much cooler air being sucked in.
also agree that the car is so smooth, it is a little deceiving...power band is definetly in the 3500+rpm range, and i've hardly tapped into it (only 500 mi on the car).
previous car was a '98 328is w/a CAI & 17" low-pros. the g35 has much better engine response then the BMW did, and there is no comparing the ride quality (g35 blows that away).
anyway, my .02 worth.

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
reseting the ecu will have no impact on the 6spd.
I've tried this and all it did was reset the pedal sensitivity, the gas pedal felt very heavy for about 2 days. After that, it went back to normal (went back to being light to press, VERY easy to push it )
There is a section devoted to this in the service manual. Basically after reseting the ECU, you need to sort of calibrate the gas pedal by turning the key to ON, then OFF and pressing the gas pedal in or something, about 10 times or so, then its set.
thats what happens with electronically controlled gas pedal/throttle

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
NSX? G35 would never even get close to NSX =)
i had a 01 CL typeS with CAI/Header (28WHP)/Exh/Pulley and some other stuff until it got stolen 1 month ago... around 250 HP to the wheel... it feels like MY CLS is much faster than my G35C 6speed... maybe because it s sooo Freaking hard to shift to 2nd at high RPM from1st in my G

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
Well, i won't say it is a slow car. I went to the track and ran a best ET of 14.08 and a best MPH of 101.75. If you think that is slow, then you are seriously delusional. The torque of the big V8 is what makes the E55 feel so much faster. I had a mustang before this that ran 13.9 @ 99 mph and it "felt" faster. It sure as hell wasn't....

Actually the G35c would run circles around the 252HP NSX Auto. And Acura is crazy for selling an NSX auto for 89,000! For that kind of money there is a whole lot of better choices!

That is a nice time for a G35. You are right the torque on the E55 with 391hp does make a difference. I did race my old E55 and it beat my car by 10 car lengths, but I expected it to beat me by that much.
I'm beginning to think there is something with my car. What do I say when I go to my dealer? My car feels slower? I know my tranny is getting louder and louder (when the clutch is not depress).

Re: Anyone else think the G35 is slow
Well....not to get too off-topic (sorry) but come on, the NSX and G35 aren't even in the same game. The G35 5AT is a great car, no question, but I seriously doubt anyone here was choosing between a new G35C and a new automatic NSX. Re:Performance... see Motor Trend Aug 1991. They tested a bunch of automatic sports cars and the NSX ran to 60 in 5.8s, 14.4 @ 99.3 thru the 1/4 -- pretty damn fast for a '91, whose powertrain and tranny are essentially identical to a '03 when the automatic is ordered. Blew away a Z32 TT, 928 S4, and 500SL among others. Only a C4 Vette was comparable.
FWIW, regardless of the how an automatic NSX does in a drag race, I suspect around a track an automatic NSX would lap quicker, assuming both cars are in the hands of a skilled driver who could properly exploit the NSX's balance and handling.
Just my 2c... and now back to your regularly scheduled program...
