I use this mount with my escort 8500 x50 and I notice that it's a little hard for me to slide the detector on and off the mount b/c the space between the release button and the rearview mirror is very tight. I don't think my fingers are that fat?! The thing is, I had to adjust/bend the mount a little so that the radar detector would be level, otherwise it's kinda slanted downward. Does anyone else have a problem sliding a 8500 on and off?

take out your KEY (yes the one u use to drive) to push the button.. its small and does the trick.. thats what i used

edit: BTW you can adjust the mount so it doesnt bend.. our mirrors can move up and down, left to right, and angles.. i bent my mount so theres about 80 degrees between my radar and mount.. just my mirrors sits a little higher then how i previously had it.

I hardwired Kyosho's radar today and he noticed that it wasnt pixing up the band as well as it was before.. so yeah maybe moving it from the bottom to the top of the windshield doesnt improve its performance.. we're pretty sure its not the power (hardwired into fuse box) cause its still displaying 14.something volts ._.

As far as it hanging on the rear view, mine was pretty solid - even with a sub cranking out some good bass never had a problem with it falling off. What I did was put a layer of masking tape around the mount that sticks into the radar (You don't actually see this) so that made it have a nice tight fit..

I actually just sold my mount to someone on the boards though because of the fact I work in Virginia (where the damn radars are illegal) and was always concerned about pulling up next to cops and them seeing it so for now I mounted it up high via the suction cups next to the rear view. If VA had them legal I would have kept my mount though. If its hardwired it looks good.
How did you hard wire your detector? Did you just tap into the wires for the mirror auto dimmer or the dome lights right above the mirror?

No, i wired it to the passenger side A Pillar. Just stripped the car adapter along with it.

However, if you are NOT comfortable doing the hardwire I'd just go to Circuit City or something like that and they'll do it for $20. I normally wouldnt trust them but even they cant mess this up.

What wire did you tap into in the A pillar? I was thinking of tapping into the wire that powers the dome lights or seats or something.

Hmmm I like the looks of this mount but I think I would get some heat from cops being that I live in CA and it's illegal

radar detectors are not illegal in California. Only jammers are illegal.

I believe there's an ignition line there to tap into. Just tap into anything you can find there that turns on when you turn on the power to your car.

BTW, Mike has no website. In fact I'm not even sure he makes the mount anymore? I can give you guys his e-mail though if interested. I think he works in a machine shop or has some access to making these.

I take that back. I just heard from Mike. He's still making the mount. $20 for the x50 and $30 for the V1 mounts. Those are shipped prices. Just PM me and I'll give you his contact info.

klumzyee and i just received our mounts and installed in the past week.

i definitely noticed a change in detection capabiliy; on my regular routes its not picking up some of the bands it used to detect, and on some it has been going off much later. i'm still not sure what the problem is, because i thought a higher mounting location would help but i guess not. i'll keep you guys posted. i dont even know why i bought a radar detector anyway. probably peace of mind, or just looks . i dont even speed that much.

but that's the point of the mount if you get lower detection with it?

I'm not sure about the Escort but Valentine reccomends that you instal theirs up high to get full effect of their rear detection mode!
