it definitely would. check it out at the real trade in forum in edmunds.com. that's where i asked, and I found it it would bring down the value of a new car by thousands of dollars. for old cars, it's ok. plus, a new paint job varies from 4k-10k.

anyone want to buy my infiniti car cover? its been used three times lol
For G35 Coupe.. goes on and off pretty easily.. and is a little dirty.. but it is washing machine safe
think the dealer sells it around $400? (dont quote me on that)
send me a PM if you're interested?

I just picked up a geniune Infiniti G35 sedan cover off of ebay for $50. Just had a little soot by the tail pipe area. Fits like a glove and folds up to the size of a small gym bag.

I agree with everyone else but want to add another view. If it's done right, dealers and potential buyers won't be able to tell. If you want to repaint, have them remove the hood, trunk fenders, doors, bumpers...everything that can be taken off. These items should be then be painted while off the car. This prevents over spraying that is the tell-tale sign of repainting. I've seen repaints that were unidentifiable when done this way.
It's very expensive though!

...Dealers have people of theirs trained to look for these subtle differences generally unless the dealer is an idiot. Also, if you're repainting everything inside and out then you'll have to remove the VIN stickers on certain panels and reapply them (not an easy task) once they panels have all been repainted. There will always be a sign that the car has been repainted somewhere if one looks carefully.
