Raced a g35 sedan in my coupe
He suprised me today coming out of the tolls on the NJ Parkway. He was right next to me and I heard him floor it. So I threw it into manumatic mode and floored it about a second after he did. I had VDC on. I creeped up on him and pulled dead even then had to slow down so I didn't smash into the car in front of me. I had a passenger, he didn't. He had an advantage of getting a quicker start than me. With no traffic I would have pulled on him no doubt even with extra 200lb passenger I had. I have no mods at all and 3750 miles. Cool race.

Re: Raced a g35 sedan in my coupe
the coupe is not more aerodynamic then a sedan. but the difference is still minimal.
0.27 drag sedan
0.29 drag coupe
20 hp difference ? Where ?
I have seen dynos for a sedan 225hp to the wheels
as well as dynos for the coupe 225 hp to the wheels.
where is the extra 20 hp ?
coupe auto to sedan auto -> drivers race
Remember each car with its varying tranny algorythims is slightly different. The power wont change, but the shifting, and the holding of gears will. If he floored it without manumatic, and you floored it in manumatic, that might make up for the pull that you observed.

Agree with Dally. Spanked a sedan bad on the 401 two weeks ago. I don't normally entertain this stuff but he asked me to play, and it would have been an otherwise boring commute. His seats have memory, and people taller than 5'5" fit in back, if it's any consolation to sedan owners everywhere. ;o)
Well done FD on the lbs/hp, especially given the fact that the drivetrains are identical (minor exception being the wheel diameters). Aeros are within spitting distance. This is why the coupe has an advantage, regardless of tranny.
As for the 5AT shifting- guys, guys, guys (and gals too perhaps) this "upnplug the ecu/learned shifting" stuff only applies to partial throttle upshifts. Great for granny around town (which is the only time you ought to be on the auto side of the gate anyway imho). Saves some gas unless you have the incessant desire to punch it and enjoy the burble and bark of the exhaust with the windows down around town. (I fully admit to engaging in this childish behaviour ) ) Put your foot right to the floor, and look at the tach- every shift happens at 6575 or there-abouts, until you lift. So if you must hammer from stoplight to stoplight, just be sure to keep your foot buried hard on the floor. Dispell the myths and legends.
Both are great cars- that's why MT chose them both as COY, C&D gave them both a Top 10 nod, and in Automobile People's choice they both topped their respective categories.

Re: Raced a g35 sedan in my coupe
I got a sedan when I took my coupe in for service and I have to say... the sedan is slower than the coupe. Both cars had about 3000 miles on the odo, but I still baby my coupe so I NEVER floor it. On the freeway onramp... the same one I use every day... I hit 75 waaayyyy before I hit the merge lane and have to lay off the gas. With the loaner, I smashed the gas... and was doing 75 - 80 when I hit the merge lane.
I dunno if this'll make any difference, but the loaner had a quarter tank of gas. I usually have 3/4 tank in my coupe... since I fill up often with the company gas card =)
