how to get a good start in an AT

What is the best way to get a quick start with the 5AT? Just stepping on it obviously doesnt do it. Whats the best technique?

brake torque, hold onto the brakes, rev up to like 2k, then let go of the brakes... with VDC off of course... you need to use both feet, and hold onto the brakes real hard...

DO THIS OFF ROAD! (or when nobody is around...)

after turning vdc off, rev it to about 3-4k rpm while holding the brake with your left foot. then let go and press down fully on the accelerator. i've found that its much harder to get a good launch and break the tires loose a bit when you're holding the rpm for a brief period of time. try revving up to the rpm you want in one burst and letting go immediately.

i believe that dose not harm your car, its called stall testing for the torque converter+tranny, just dont hold it there for no more than 10 seconds

Yeah, why not just do a neutral drop at about 5k.

is that where you rev in neutral and then put it into 1st? Is that bad? I don't know all that much about what the drivetrain can take. This isn't something i would do all the time, but i'd like just a lil more getup than stepping on it from a start. Not so much for racing someone, but more for just a good fast start.

Please DO NOT do a neutral drop. You will damage your trans.

Brake/Gas for a short period to launch is "OK" just don’t to it one run after the next. When you brake torque to launch the car you’re heating up the transmission fluid, and once it’s VERY hot it’s not good for the transmission (trans cooler helps). Occasional Brake/Gas launch is OK, just don’t hold it for too long and let it the car cool after a run.

after the first neutral drop you will hear a big clunk... that is the sound of $2-3k falling out of your pocket.
