front plates are required. if you plan on doing any mods at all, install the front plate. a simple fix-it ticket can get really expensive if you have illegal mods so why even give the officers a reason to pull you over in the first place.

$70 for missing front license plate. or $10 if you show the car with the front license plate to a cop and he signs your ticket. bah... now i got to put the sucker on, find the cop... easier to just pay the damn ticket... damn chalk monkeys in palo alto...

hey guys....where do you get the front plate bracket that screws into the tow hook so you dont dammage the bumper with screws? Ive had several customers ask me and the advisors for one of them but ive only seen it once and our parts department wants to stock these as an alternative.

Im required in NJ to have a front plate, but it really takes away from the nice grill of the G35. Same with my vette and porsche, but I've had the vette for 8 years and 1 ticket in all those years. The cop really has to be looking to make his quota for you to get pulled over for that. Not to mention see not only the rear, but also the front of the car to make sure you are in the same state (since not all states require both)

Hi G35Mechanic,

My wife has an 05 CPE 6MT on order and we originally were going to have the dealer not install the front plate and we were going to get one of the after-market plate holders. In talking with the dealer, and reading the installation instructions in the manual, we are going to go ahead and let the dealer drill the two 10mm holes and mount the front plate holder.

Our thought is if you are going to in fact display the front plate why care about the two small holes behind the plate in the not rusting composite material?

Again, if one plans to not display the plate than I entirely get it and would not have the dealer drill the two holes. But, if one plans to display the front plate why worry about two small hidden holes in non-rusting composite material?

TIA

"why worry about two small hidden holes in non-rusting composite material?" I'm not worried-I need 2 plates in NJ and I think you do in all the surrounding states. And the two holes-non-rusting as you noted- are pretty darn small. But some people might worry about selling it to someone where the front plate is not required.

Esthetically, my front plate bothers me less than the EZ-Pass I have mounted in the window (which I don't have to have, but is very convenient. I don't want to bother to hand-hold it up every time I go through a booth and it might not work right every time). Some owners really don't like the plate. I can't see risking a ticket or the incovenience of a stop just for that. But that's me.

Some people do want the front plate but they dont want the bumper drilled into. By law when the car leaves our lot as a new unit it absolutly must have a front plate bracket installed. If the customer wants to take it off that is their business. This way they have the option of not having holes in the bumper.

my oem bracket kit was in the trunk when the car was delivered to me...

as for the one that attaches to the tow hook, Stillen and Strictly Z sell those. i looked at those before i drilled my bumper, but the design looks like the plate could be accidently rotated pretty easily... i'd rather have holes in my bumper than a crooked plate.

Hey, just to let you know I leave mine in the little compartment above the stereo (that flips up where the navigation would go) so if you dont have navigation just throw the EZpass in there and it works every time. I always flip the lid when I go through just to be safe, but its worked every time. But hey, dont blame me if this doesent work for you for whatever reason

Also, in my fathers lifetime of driving expensive cars in New Jersey (Ferraris, Porsches, and Vettes in particular) he ALWAYS keeps the front plates off in NJ. First off, its extremely rare that you would get pulled over for this, but his main reasoning behind this is so if a cop ever does want to let you off easy, he needs to give you something, and several times in his life he has been let off with a front plate ticket (48 dollar fine or something) rather than a ranging 2-5 point speeding ticket and 150+ dollar fine. I know it sounds weird, but its worked for him, and me once allready in my 3 months of having my G. I was doing maybe 35 in a 25 and I was almost sure the cop was going to get me for that, but got me for no front plate instead.

Advantage Infiniti of Santa Monica asked me if I wanted them to install the front plate bracket when I took delivery of my car, I thought it was cool that they gave me the option. I said no and bought the Strictly Z tow hook adapter. It's worked great for my needs. Once I tightened it up I never had it get crooked. So, now when I want to take pics of my ride or bring it to a meet, off comes the plate in under a minute. I know some ppl don't care about the fix it tickets, but I always used to worry when sitting at a red light starring at the cop sitting across from me.

BTW, when ever the terror alerts get raised and they up the security at LAX the cops will ding you as you pull into the check point.

One last thing the Strictly Z tow hook adapter makes the plate stick about a half inch out from the front bumper. It doesn't bother me but some ppl have complain about it. I don't think the Stillen one has that issue.

Heeb-Interesting that it works in the cubby up top. I may be afraid to try it. My wife received a ticket in the mail ($55) on Sat. for not paying the toll on the Garden State, even though she has a mounted EZ-Pass. It may not have registered, or she may have picked the wrong lane, but in any case I'd like to avoid more of those!

Interesting stories about your father as well, but for now, at least, I'm leaving my plate on. Is it a point violation to not have it?

Thanks.
