Got wheel hop?

I do.

I went to practice my launching technique tonight and I just realized that my car gets some wheel hop when I give it just the right amount of power.

If I drop the clutch at 35000rpm I spin like hell, 2500rpm is not enough, 3200 still to much wheel spin...2850 seems to be about the perfect rpm for the way I drop the clutch/press the gas but I always seem to get a little hopping for the first few feets.

Maybe the pilots are to stiff or maybe there is another technique???

Re: Got wheel hop?

Try lowering tire pressure to around 20 and see what that does.

Currently driving 93 RX-7 TT. Very seriously considering selling the RX for a G-35 coupe.

Re: Got wheel hop?

Say, Montreal Man, if you're launching at "35000 rpm" I'm surprised you don't go into orbit instead of just a little wheel hopping! How's that engine of yours holding up? Just kidding. Life is too serious-we gotta get laughs somewhere. Drive on and enjoy!

Re: Got wheel hop?

He must have ordered the turbine engine option. You know...the one with the 70,000 RPM redline? It's cool. You can run it on anything...lighter fluid, paint thinner - whatever. Only adds $500,000 to the price. I want one too...

Re: Got wheel hop?

Guys keep in mind that we have VTEC, all you need are a few type R stickers and you can rev it at very very high rpm. lol

I'll probably go practice again tonight and try to find a way to eliminate the wheel hop.

Btw, what is IRS?

Re: Got wheel hop?

OK, here's the solution when you go out and practice:

Plant right foot firmly on the ground. Open trunk. Take out Bugs Bunny. Hopping ends. Get in car. Floor it with same right foot.

Tee hee.

IRS? Well, it ain't the infernal revenoooers. It's "independent rear suspension" in contrast to some other, less-sophisticated rear end setups like live-axle, etc.

Re: Got wheel hop?

IRS is great for handling, but is a drag racers worst nightmare. For them, you want a little bit of the live axle. I found out that you need to burnout above 5000 rpms to get no wheel hop.

Re: Got wheel hop?

I had independent rear suspension on my 240sx and I never got wheel hop, ahhhh thoes low tech 5.0 mustang were so great for drag racing...

It's raining tonight so I guess I'll have to practice tomorrow, I'll try to burn out before doing a start. Time to burn thoes expensive pilots. lol

Re: Got wheel hop?

Got wheel hop, think about suspension bushings, better strut dampning and tire pressure's. Last resort, engine mount and tranny mount stiffness. Frankly I haven't heard about this being a real issue, here or on the Z car forums.
