Front Plate ticket question

i parked my car in a UC San Diego parking lot today, and i came back to find a parking ticket for no front plate! It looks like the ticket was issued by USCD on campus cops, since i just need to pay 25 bucks and i dont have to fix it. are they allowed to do this?! since the car is parked, and not in motion shouldent this be okay? i dont want to be one to fuss over 25 bucks, but i dont want this to be a continuous problem. call me vain, but the car looks 100x bettter with out the front plate. thanks!

Pay the $25 and forget about it. Think of it as the price you pay for not having a front plate.
As far as the issuance itself goes, yes, they can issue you a ticket for that even when you're car is parked - after all, that's not a moving violation. The good thing is that you won't get points for that.

Yeah that can work. Kinda would suck to have to keep that there all the time though.

No, plate must be properly affixed (read: attached to bumper).

I'm in Missouri, where a front plate is required, but I don't have one on (since I bought in Illinois).

I'm hoping I never run into a problem.

No front plate is a big issue here in CA. The thing that gets me is that most of the high end vehicles (SL600, 645ci, etc.) never get ticketed for no front plates. If you drive around the city and run into these cars, 90% of them won't have their front plates on. They never get hassled too...

IL is a front plate required state. IN isn't though...

yeah wicked, my mom drives an s500 and she never has any problems with no front plate. so i guess the general agreement is that in CA, plate on the dash wont cut it?

I know when I got my ticket for no front plate in NJ, the guy said I could put it on the dash. This might vary from state to state. I would just leave it without any plate, and if it happens again, then put one on.

I guess the car does matter. I got pulled over within 2 months of having the G with no plate. In the vettes 8 years, only 1 ticket, and in the porsche 4 years, 0 tickets.

No, it won't. In fact, it's probably better to not leave your front plate on the dash than to leave it on. The cops will consider it an "obstruction of view."
