theres a plate under the shift **** that is adjustable horizontally, but not vertically (in our case), so the dealer said they dont know what it is...

I had absolutely no problems with shifting or grinding with my 6MT. But when I brought it to the dealer 2 weeks ago to have them check out a weird rattle/knocking sound when going from a stop, they told me the whole tranny and clutch needed to be replaced at only 19k miles. I was very surprised since the tranny always shifted fine and felt OK. The only bad things I noticed about the tranny was it always had clutch chatter/shuddering when letting the clutch out from a stop, and it always had a pretty loud sound when in neutral with the clutch out (sounded like a washing machine on spin cycle), which I identified as the throw out bearing. Both of these the car did since it was brand new.
The new tranny fixed the throw out bearing sound (now its nice and quiet in neutral), but now the clutch chatter/shuddering is much worse. The whole car shudders when I let the clutch out. Its going back in to the dealer on Monday to have the tranny pulled again and a new pressure plate installed on the clutch, which they claim will fix the chattering problem. The dealer originally wanted me to pay $350 for the new pressure plate, claiming it was a wear item not covered under warranty, but I insisted they replace it and not charge me since it was clearly a defect. No pressure plate should wear out at only 19k miles.
In talking with the service manager, he told me they've done "many" 6MT tranny replacements on the G35 coupe. Seems to be a common problem.
I'm hoping this fixes all of my tranny problems once and for all. If it does, I'll buy the car at the end of my lease since I like the rest of it. If not, I'm going to hand the dealer my keys at the end of my lease in June and walk away from it.

Hmmm that's interesting because all the '05 drivers claim a marked difference if they've driven an 03-04 before.
I had a problem with grinding into 5th gear only. I was at like 40K and back in Feb I had the car towed in for my CAI sucking water into the engine. Long story short. I told them about the tranny while it was in the shop, told them to take it for a spin after they fixed the engine. They called me back later and told me that a new tranny was being ordered and to enjoy the loaner until it was fixed. I had them throw in a NISMO clutch while they had the thing out too.
And on a side note, the loaner was an '05 sedan with barely 400 miles on it when I got it. It had something like 1500 when I picked my car up.

I've just noticed some grinding shifting into 5th in my '04 sedan. It mostly happens if I am shifting quickly. If I take my time it usually won't grind. It really does it when I go straight from 3rd to 5th too. I started noticing some shifting issues a couple of weeks ago but mostly just dismissed them. I am taking it in to the dealer in a couple of weeks to see what they say. I only have 6800 miles too.
Dropped my '03 (29k) off at the local dealer to have a few small things looked into plus the "washing machine" noise in neutral clutch out. They called and told me they want to replace the tranny. Also wanted to charge me $1800 for a new clutch. I told them to go ahead with the tranny but leave the clutch which they agreed to do. I have no problems with the clutch (other than the normal high effort) and I was not going to pay $1800 for a clutch. Very happy they want to do replace the tranny though.

I have an '05 with 1300 miles on the clock. It seems to make a very loud metallic rattling noise in 1st and 2nd when accelerating from a stop. I believe this is common with the 05s. It is damn loud though.

That made me really confused.

.....I didn't do the differential fluid yet....I assume that would be at the rear axle....but the the gear oil alone stopped all the madness

I beleive the GL-5 can cause damage to the "yellow metals" in the transmission.
I called the service dept and they said it is likely the throwout bearing and want to take a listen so that they can make sure. This will hopefully cure my howling noise.
I feel better now heh.

I have an '05 6mt with a little less than 2k miles so far. I've also noticed some difficulties shifting from 1st to 2nd, as well as the "block" feeling when trying to shift up to 3rd (although I can't say that I've noticed the block when shifting into 5th), sometimes it seems unwilling to go to 6th gear as well. I was planning to discuss this with dealer at my first service appt. has anyone else talked to them about this yet?
