18K miles lost most syncros above 3rd gear. Fought for two weeks on warranty but finally got it replaced. They also did the clutch even though I didnt ask for it.

I think it was at 26k on my '03 it would grind ~only~ the very first shift of the day from 1st to 2nd. It did it 3x, two consecutive (very cold) mornings for me and once a couple days later for the tech at the dealership. They called me that afternoon to tell me I was getting a new tranny and clutch under warranty. From the first grind to warranty replacement took place in less than a week.

grinding describes itself. either you got it or not. sound it makes if you dont use the clutch and try to jamit into gear at the wrong rpms best way to describe it i can think of.

Is it me? Or have most of us come to the conclusion that the 6mt is not the most reliable tranny when compared to the AT or other 6mt transmissions. After reading many threads on all the Nissan/Infiniti forums I can't help but notice all of the comments about grinding, synchros, and fights with the dealer to replace the trannies under warranty.

I know that you get the worst of the worst on automotive forums, but this definately seems to be a significant amount of 6mt going down. I am just waiting for mine to die on me right after the warranty expires.

Has anyone heard of a TSB on our trannies yet? And for those of us 6mt guys who have won the battle with the dealer and had their trannies replace, do they replace it with the same 03/04 tranny or with the supposedly improved 05 spec tranny?

I am starting to notice a 1st to 2nd grind every no and then, managable but not acceptable. All these reports of bad trannies is getting worrisome! Especially for us who have yet to experince a full breakdown.

I'm getting MOTUL 300 for the trannies and i heard it's the best for the trannie. I hear that the notchy feeling will be gone! Notchy kinda bothers me a lotwhen shifting to 1st gear, 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. After that, it's seem fine. I will let you guys and girls know if MOTUL 300 well worth of the money.

Peace

Where did you get the two fluids? Are they supposed to be the same fluid and you put into two different places or are they two different fluids? The reason I ask this is last week when i went to a local Nissan dealer and ask for manual transmission fluid AND differential fluid, they told me there is only differential fluid but no transmission fluid. That made me really confused.

Grider35c - I get the same intermittent thing on my 3 and 5 shifts. Not grinding but a strange metal feel. Don't know how to describe it better. I have 3k on my car. Weird.
