G35 gas milage problem?

Has anyone had problems with mpg? I've had my G 6MT for 4 tanks of gas. Got 19mpg first tank all hwy. 14-15mpg for tanks 2 and 3 all city. Driving like a grand mother. 21mpg all hwy tank 4, 75mph all cruise control . Took it to shop and they say it is fine. Any comments appreciated. I want to drive it like it's supposed to be driven and not go broke doing it.

I have 1600 miles. The dealer took the car for the day and drove city and hwy about 70 miles and got 20-25. Said he was driving 75 on hwy and speed limit in city. Wish I was getting that 20-30 like they say.

It doesn't matter as much where your shifting at...but where your foot is at on the gas pedal

Maybe it's just because you're not used to it yet...I can't remember getting anything decent for about a month until I really got used to it.

Yeah like Hosh said,
Its all about the butterfly as they say in Nascar.

Look at the Tachometer (Rev meter) and notice how fast it climbs up the RPM, its equivalent to how far you press the gas down. The harder you step on the accelerator pedal, the wider the butterfly in the throttle valve opens up, and thus more fuel is injected into the cylinders
So, its not just about the RPM's, its also about the throttle position

Seems to be the worst part about our G's--- MPG's. That's especially bad if you're checking accurately and only getting 14-15 city, and 21 hwy.
Give it some more time to break in and if you don't see an improvement, tell the service peeps again. If they won't help, find someone else who will. Mine is a good 2-3 mpg's better.

Wreck,

I think your on to something. Maybe its not the % of city/hwy. Its the % of driving like an *** to not drving like an ***.

The “real” Japanese are very considerate people and the cars are designed to be driven like that. Maybe it’s how fast you ram up on people that kill’s your gas mileage. I would bet that you find a correlation between people with bad gas mileage and early break wear.

This reminds me of the movie Meet the Parents, were Ben Stiller is racing from light to light. LOL

Re: G35 gas milage problem?

Using the same brand of gas, and doing the same basic commute to/from work with the same city/highway mix, I can vary my mileage between 14mpg and 18mpg depending on how heavy my foot is. It's the difference between frequent spirited acceleration with 80-85mph freeway speeds and light acceleration with 70mph freeway speeds. It's hard to only go 70, though, with all the Integra's and WRX's and Jetta's zipping past me....

Re: G35 gas milage problem?

I've been filling up every 300 miles (with about a quarter tank left), which is probably about 20MPG. This is what city milage is supposed to be, and most of it was during the break-in period. It should improve a bit, but I don't think I can be easy on the gas pedal . I try to baby the car, but once you hit the gas, you just want to hear the engine rev!

Re: G35 gas milage problem?

Ya I am getting same as you man. I am getting about 14 city and I am like babying. I wish I could like get 300 miles or 20mpg per gallon. DId you know that the FX35, Maxima, Altima and Pathfinder/QX4 gets a little better milage out of the same engine.

Re: G35 gas milage problem?

On my first tank of gas which was dealer provided (I would bet they didn't put premium in it) I got around 16 which is not too good...I hope you guys are right that it gets better after break in. The car only weighs 3350 pounds so it should definetely do better than that!

Those engines aren't as highly tuned as the G's tho. The intake on ours is bigger, as well as the exhaust, and the ECU is tuned for high performance especially in the Coupe.
My 2k2 Max was better than my G's on mileage, but not as good a performer.

Re: G35 gas milage problem?

I fill up about once a week. Maybe twice depending on my saturday and friday night's. Pretty expensive... Like 35 bucks for a full tank of gas.... and it only last's 5 to 7 days...
