Birdstrike!

I was on the highway cruising at 90 or so and out of the tree line comes this little bird.... It started flying into the road and I instinctively hoped it would just keep going to the other side. Instead it flew down and started to turn to fly in the same direction as me It must have only been a second between the time the bird flew out and the impending impact, although it felt like an eternity
Something was splattered on the hood and winshield and feathers were all over the place.
I thought something was broken for sure... I called my family to let them know what had happened and immidiately tried to get back home. Sunday drive over.

It turned out the damage wasn't too bad. No holes in the radiator and surprisingly the grill was undamaged. It wasn't fun to clean but I'm happy there was no real damage or leaks or anything. A day later with no warning lights, leaks, abnormal smells or anything... all seems ok

Glad to hear that there wasn't any damage. I'm an Air Traffic Controller and I have seen what kind of damage birds can do to aircraft. It's a good thing you were only doing around 90 and hadn't reached V1 and started to takeoff..

very true
actually my cousin is ex-usaf and he was telling me about what they had to do after a bird strike, he said the bird would go through the skin and the guts would get pushed all the way back into the aircraft.. and sometimes there was even subframe damage

You're pretty lucky. Some of you ex-maxima guys may remember the bird strike on the B pillar (windows open) that splattered all over the INSIDE and back glass of someone's car. That was so nasty. I was in a Jeep once that hit a vulture and it broke the windshield and bent the a-pillar.

Have you guys seen the picture where a Dodge Viper was racing on a road track and a bird hit the windshield? I've seen these pictures on the internet before. I just tryed looking for pictures...but i failed to find them. Anyways, the bird hit just right to where it went through the weather stripping and splatter all inside the car. Meanwhile, part of the bird was stuck between the windshield and weather stripping. It was a bizarre sight.

About 10-15 years ago Dale Earnhardt hit a seagull at Daytona (hit where the left headlight decal is I believe) on the backstretch... Probably going 185mph or so at the time...
