Question Looking to lease an 05 mt...

I am a long time troll, but a first time poster who is planning to lease a new G35 Coupe. I’m located just west of Philadelphia.

Is there a particular dealership that anybody would recommend for a great deal, or for that matter, is there an online leasing service that offered great deals? I’m looking for first-hand experience, rather than second hand knowledge.

I have seen some posts on Douglass Infiniti in Summit, NJ, but that is almost 100 miles from my house. There are no other searches that have yielded dependable results.

Thanks.

Ray Catena in Edison is great... but I guess that should be about 70-75 miles from your place.
You could start my emailing these dealers which are far... that way you would only need to come see them if the deal is finalized. Plus it will help compare prices/lease terms from dealer to dealer.

I just leased an 05 G35 Coupe... sticker was $37,400... it had all the options with exception of GPS/DVD screen...

I put $5000 down, dealer took off $1200 from sticker and monthly payments are $511 on a 24 month lease.

Why 24 months? Because in 2 years, I'm hoping to put $35K down on a Viper and finance the other $50K...

When i was looking for my G, I emailed all the dealers in my area. But no one gave me what I wanted. AND THEN I went to Douglass Infiniti... Speak to Aaron, he's a great salesman- Tell him Jose with the Red G sent you. I got my car for $500 over invoice- $0 Down @ $488 for 39 months. I of course paid the bank fee, acquisition fee, 1st month. Which came out to be under $1500. Good deal if you ask me.

That does sound like a good deal. Was the $488 before or after taxes?

I've got a couple quotes thus far. Infiniti of Ardmorre, $499(before tax) and $469(before tax) for an online leasing company. The online company sounds good, but there's that little voice in my head that I can't quiet.

PA taxes about 9% on car leases. I've never heard of this before. The state has 6% sales tax on normal purchases, but 9% on leases??!!?? I checked with my wife's current lease, and it was the same 9%

zero down and $488/mo was exactly what the Mini dealer wants for the Cooper S. So I ended up getting a G35 for $505/mo (both have tax included)

Yeah that's WITH tax. It was the best deal that I could find. Douglass Infiniti! I only paid roughly $1500 out of pocket - first payment, bank fee, yadda yadda.. you get my drift.

Good Luck
Get a laser red/wheat! It's the best - hahaha

I'm I missing something

Whats the advantage of a lease? Seems if one person bought a 2003 G and the other leased it, seems like the leaser is the looser after two years. I'm assuming the 9% tax is just on the lease payment and not the value of the car. The G owner pays say $36K with tax/title. The leaser, over two years, pays:

$488 x 24 = $11,712 + $1,054 in tax = $12,766

So if you can get more than $23K for your 2003 G you did MUCH better than a lease. Much better because you have no milage restrictions and such.

Am I missing something?

$488 x 39 = 19032 Including taxes- and I get 15k miles per year
My residual is like 21K or something like that- Your telling me that someone will be willing to pay MORE than 21K for a used G35 in 2008? I dont think so. I paid no down payment and saved a couple hundred bucks per month not financing. Either way I probably would of sold it in three years and still took a major loss. I'm happy with my lease!

2003 G35 Coupes will still be selling for more than 21k next year.......same thing as a 2005 in 2008.

Personally I really don't see the point in leasing a car, especially one that retains value as well as a G Coupe.

I don't think that holds true. You think that by the time 2008 rolls around the G will retain its value like it does now? I don't think so.

Anyways, to each their own. My only problem was that in the end it all works out to be about the same.

You put 3g's down for financing, play close to 700 bucks a month over 36 months = $28200 and i'm not even deducting interest because all the money doesn't go to the price of the car.
If you decide to sell then, you lose ALL that money.

Leasing is for people who don't think they will keep the car for more than a few years.

I'm assuming you bought a 2005 coupe worth $36K? As you calculated, over the life of you lease you'll pay $19K in lease payments and you get 45K miles. So the question should really be will a 2005 G with 45K miles be worth 17K in 2008. I would certainly hope so. What's a 2003 G going to be worth in 2006? I'm guessing around 24K at least.

The residual doesn't factor into the equation since its just a buy option in the contract at the end of your lease. The residual is usually more than the fair market value of the car, but in the case of the G it is slightly below market value usually. This means that the G is the one of the best cars to lease, but it doesn't mean its a good idea either. It just happens to just be a bad idea instead of a terrible idea.

Thanks again for the info.

I apologize. I did not intend for this to become a discussion about the value of a lease vs. the value of a purchase.

To each their own.

My reasons: I will be buying a house in a year and begin having children in 3. It is easier to swing a lease payment at this time in my life, while preparing for the next few years. Also, while the coupe can accommodate an infant it it’s back seat, I don’t want to worry about getting rid of it when the children out grow the convenience of the rather small back seat.

The fact is that all estimates for the value of the G in three years are simply educated speculation based on current market trends. In another 3 years, things will change quite dramatically. After all, 2007 is the last deadline I have heard for the long awaited release of the GTR.
