PICS: Broken Spring sticking out from side/bottom of my car?!
What on earth is this?! I was driving the other day on the freeway and heard a loud "clank!" kinda sound that came from the back of the driver side. It actually sounded like a lug fell off or something. I checked it out and I see this spring looking thing sticking out now from underneath the car?! It's obviously visible from the outside, and I honestly have NO IDEA what this is/was connected to. My guess is that maybe it has something to do with VDC?
Do you think whatever this is, that it's under warranty? I've had my coupe for a little over a year with about 24,000 miles on it. I just wanted to get some thoughts before I ran it into the dealer and had them soak me for labor. I'm really hoping this isnt that big of a deal but like i said I have no idea. So any ideas would definitely be appreciated...

I believe your car is still under warranty. Did you look to see what if anything it is connected to? You may have just run over something and it got stuck in something on the bottom. It looks like a brake line but I can't tell too much from pic. Definitely find out what it is attached to.
Yeah that's kinda what it sounded like to me. Theres nothing wrong with how my car drives now. Brakes fine, rides fine, etc.
I just dont like the idea of having something sticking out like that. It kinda makes me a little nervous. Is there a diagram of under the car somewhere that lists out the parts, etc that I can compare to? Cuz it isnt really a line per se' but, like i said it just looks like a spring or something -- like a coil or something...

No i didnt get a chance to do it as I just noticed yesterday - last nite. Sorry for the pics cuz I only have a camera phone and its not the greatest quality. I dont know that if i lifted it up I'd even know where it went....
hummm, in that case, you better take it into the dealer. Don't want you to hurt
yourself raising the car incorrectly or something.
If one of your friends have a
ramp, you can backup onto it and see from the side of the car where it might go
onto...but just take her in.

Hard to tell from the pic, but first blush it does not look like it came with the car when you got it. Probably road debris. Just get a little hand mirror and some light, put a cloth or towel down so you don't mess your shirt and pants up, roll up your sleeve, and flop down and take a look at where it is snagged. You don't want to start yanking on it until you see what it is caught up on, etc.
If the other end has eyes and teeth, let go quickly.

good point about it not even being part of my car. it was in such a random part and I didnt think that it would be connected to anything that could cause it to just get broke like that...usually the undercarriage is protected rite? Cuz i have no idea what it could be?!
LOL good advice as well on the eyes/teeth thing.

that was my thought also... it has a coiled shroud around it like the e brake cable...
is there a way to check to see if its an ebrake? Like what would the brake be connected to? i gues I can just tug on it and if it dislodges, i can assume its not part of my car, but if it doesnt budge, i'll take to infiniti and HOPEFULLY they will be able to fix under warranty.
I'd imagine somethin like that would be under warrenty rite? I just have fears of them tellin me this is somethin i did...etc etc..ya know?

not 100% sure... but it looks like a ground strap to me. have u been able to take a peek under your car? try using a mirror to look under the side and see where that wire goes.
