Brake Dust

Can someone help? I have brake dust that will not come off. I have tried
almost everything. I spoke with the service manager at the dealer and he said he heard of people using soft bright which is normally used for non-stick pans.(non-scratch) So I tried it and it does work a little but it would
probably take several hours to get it all off, and i do not want to mess the finish up. Has anyone else had this problem?

Dude how long did you let the brake dust build up? You have to be on top of it.. You should be wiping it off every other day or so... Try simple green and a microfiber towel.. don't use anything abrasive or there goes the clear coat finish... You may need to use several applications to break it up! If you manage to remove it please use a good coat of wax (wheel wax) to help with the future cleaning process. Good luck..

There are a couple of us that have the same problem, mine was there and baked in the first week I had the car, I never thought to look at it earlier since it never happened to any other car I have had. Ive tried easy off oven spray but it doesnt work either.

Haven't had an issue with the 05 I'm driving either. No dust.

I recommend using the most NON ABRASIVE method first, and then going forward from there. I'd get something that specifically says 'safe for clear coated wheels' and apply it, let it sit a few minutes, then rinse and check progress.

Lather rinse repeat.

A good cleaner wax might be worth a try too - something with just a hint of mineral spirits in it - I've used a product called Cherry's Wet Wax (have some in my garage) and it works fantastic for removing stains and discolorations that other polishes and waxes wouldn't touch, yet it's non abrasive and won't harm the clear coat.

Good luck, and keep them babies clean brudda. Wash 'em good once a week and you'll never have a problem.

im wondering if the tire dressing that they sprayed all over my tires/wheels when I picked up the new car had something to do with it cause you can see that some areas are not black but other areas are, like behind the spokes, the wheel isnt black.

a few possibilities are clay bar, simple green, pressure wash. If you wash every week, I don't know how it could stick like that. I go 1-2 months and it washes off. I also Zaino'd them a while ago so maybe that helps. Every few days, use a terry towel or a Swiffer electrostatic sheet and wipe it off. The Swiffer works great if the wheel has been dry (no rain).

And when you're all done doing everything the people posted above...go to www.wheelwax.com and pick you up some of that. Apply it once a month and the brake dust will practically be non-existent.
